To help take your mind off the heat

I'm sure this has been posted before.... but maybe not in the summer?

The two best YT comments were "if you choose not do the slide you still have made a choice" and "Today's Tom Sawyer, mean mean slide"

Kevin talks about meeting Rush as a teenager

Apparently he and Joel met Alex and Geddy of Rush in April 1982 and drove them around town in Kevin's green 1978 Honda Civic.

I picked up on something odd. Kevin said he was 15 at the time. I confirmed Rush played Monroe on April 3rd of that year.

Wikipedia says his birthdate was in October 1968. His graduation from LSU in 1990 fits in that timeline pretty well.

But if that were true, he would've been only 13. Even In early 80s Louisiana, that would've been *très illegál*.

I had AI dig deeper, and it found in public records search (FastPeopleSearch) that as of mid-2026 he's 59 years old. That matches up with a 1966 birthdate, not 1968, meaning Wikipedia is \*(GASP)\* wrong.

Probably he started at LSU in 84, did the whole music thing (starting BTE in 1988) which caused his time in school to drag on, and finally got it done in 1990.

Someone needs to correct his Wikipedia article.

A moment from ESL, recreated in 2026

From Saturday night's show.

How many of you were able to hear that guy yell on original Exit... Stage Left LPs or tapes back in the day? I'm pretty sure remastering and streaming has rendered it inaudible to modern ears

Banner in bar with World Cup countries shown by flags... except six Islamic countries

Three of them are obvious: Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Iran have Islamic inscriptions, and their depiction on a banner sponsored by an alcohol company would be offensive.

The other three are less obvious. Jordan, Morocco (not shown in inset) and Algeria don't have Islamic inscriptions in their flags, but do have Islam as their state religion, and proactively banned using their flags in conjunction with alcohol.

"Defend the Empire"

My cousin sent me this photo from Tokyo. I love how bizarrely specific it is. I too wanna rock a satin jacket showing a chicken walker with "DEFEND THE EMPIRE" embroidered on the back and the words "All Terrain Scout Transport" running down each sleeve.

Old lanyards from eBay

I found an old video that described these clip-in gadgets that let you add a lanyard strap to a tool so you could hang it on a wall. Ive got a couple of hand vacs that have no good place to live so I thought putting them on lanyards would work.

Went to buy them online and found nope, they were discontinued a long time ago. But people still sell them on eBay. I found a 2-pack for $20 and figured, why the hell not.

They work as advertised, so I'm happy, but man the package that came to me would have to be classed as a "barn find". Plus I'm surprisingly bothered by the clash of the old orange-and-blue scheme with my hypergreen tools. They should really make these again.

Terrestrial radio from over 1000mi away

Just pulled in a station at 95.1 FM that ID'ed as 95SX. clChecked it out, it's a Cumulus station in Charleston SC.

However I am just a little over 1000 straight-line miles from Charleston, in Texas. Car radio, not moving, engine off.

The signal was fading in and out on its own with the local station at that frequency, but when it did came, it was quite clear, and would stay for a few seconds before fading again.

AI insists no one in my area is simulcasting that station, and that I was experiencing a natural (though phenomenal, considering the clarity when I could hear it) atmospheric skip.

I ain't buyin' it. I've heard AM stations skip over hundreds of miles (and they weren't clear like this), but not FM. What say you guys

Record Stores in Fort Worth

I'm coming to town next week... never been to Fort Worth but figured I'd hit a record store or two. Anyone got recommendations? If this helps, I can tell you that, in Austin, I favor End of an Ear over Waterloo.

Recent review of 18 different EDC lights

I recently stumbled on this guy's channel, Project Farm, where he does EXHAUSTIVE testing and reviews of tools, and lots of them in one video. His delivery style could probably annoy some but it's perfect for me. Highly data driven. It validated that my choice of a ThruNite Lynx last year was not a bad choice... but now I know I could've done better, and not necessarily for a lot more money

AI trying to tell me which song talks about "suspending disbelief"

Tennessee Vols hockey sweater

From a YouTube short. I included the second shot so you could see the full logo more clearly, without his hand blocking it, although the screen is covered by a digital confetti effect because the guy got a question right.

I love the orange-white checkerboard on the shoulders. and of course the Volunteer logo with him carrying a hockey stick instead of a rifle.

III Sides to Every Story

So what do people here think of III Sides to Every Story by Extreme? For those of you unfamiliar and wanting to listen, don't play it off Spotify or any streaming: they all have the CD version, which misses a critical part of the song cycle, "Don't Leave Me Alone". Listen to this playlist on YouTube to hear it as it was intended

Tools still on sale but showing sold out

Not sure what the point is of showing a tool that's now sold out under its big sale price. "See what you missed out on?"

So these tools that sold out, like the mid-level impact driver and the right-angle drill... those were the previous generations being cleared out? now all they'll be selling from now on are the high-end versions that never go on sale?

that's a bummer

Half off the impact driver at the top, but sold out online and at my location.

BTW what's the difference between the two drivers? All I can see is that the one on the bottom, for $10 more (at regular price), gives 100 more in-lbs of torque, and has a variable speed trigger, that maybe the top one lacks?

Another young lady learns the origin of her name

From a phone conversation today with the attendant of a hotel front desk, somewhere in Tennessee:

"And do you spell your name with L-E-E at the end, or L-E-I-G-H?"

"OH MY GOD, how did you even know to ASK??"

"Okay, let me tell you a little story about your name."

/fast-forward to the end of the conversation/

"It's a great song, you'll like it."

"Thank you!!"
