NLD - A couple of McBob Zebralight

Finally I have the full current sideclick lineup.

I was waiting for a while for the SC70 to be available through their Aliexpress store but meanwhile McBob already got ahold of them and was able to put a better led, so it was a no brainer.

I also bought another modified SC65c, with the 719A led but in 2700K, my favourite colour temperature.

Pic 1- whole current Zebralight SC lineup
Pic 2- stock SC700d, modified FFL707A 4000K SC70, stock SC600w, stock SC65c, stock SC54n
Pic 3- comparing the SC700d with the modified SC70. This is interesting because the stock SC70 would have used that same led as SC700d, just throwing less because of the reflector. The modified one with the FFL707A is way way nicer.
Pic 4- McBob 2700K SC65c next to a stock SC65c. The stock one has a great neutral tint, but the colour on the 2700K is just perfect. You lose around 5-10% throw, the stock one is around 10200 candelas (203 meters) and the 2700K one at 9400 candelas (190 meters).
Pic 5- SC600w on the left and SC70 on the right. It’s crazy but the SC70 is 0.4mm smaller on the head, despite being a 21700 instead of 18650.

All of this to tell you after over a year dailying a stock SC65c now that spot has been taken over by the 2700K McBob one. And maybe during winter I move on to the SC70.

Wuben X1 Pro review

Literally, a wall of light.

I own a bit over 50 flashlights and I'm pretty sure this one outputs the biggest luments, and it can sustain them too.

Wuben calls it an EDC light but that's maybe a bit of a stretch for me. It has 2x21700 batteries and weighs almost 400 grams, unless you have huge pockets or a very good utility belt it's hard to EDC it. Not impossible, but hard...

Build quality is excelent. The locking mechanism for the battery compartment is replaceable, as well as the fan, which can be bought at Wuben's website.

The flashlight has 5 XHP50.3 low CRI cold (5800-6500K depending on modes) emitters. I can be a bit of a high CRI warm tint snob but I understand why they went with low CRI cold emitters here. The tint is actually pretty good, barely above BBL in every mode. 4 of those emitters are dommed for the flood channel and there's one domeless for the throw channel.

A great point is that you can use every mode in flood, throw, or flood+throw. Not every flashlight that has different emitters can do that, some of them limit flood+throw only for momentary use.

Using flood+throw is able to sustain 3000 lumens and over 15000 candela for almost 2h, probably it can go over 2h if you use bigger capacity cells as the ones included are just 4800mAh each. This is one of the few powerful flashlights that can sustain high mode during the whole duration of the battery thanks to the fan.

While I wouldn't daily this light I can see how it can be useful for security in a building or factory, being able to do the night round with a lot of light in low or medium and still ramp up to high or even turbo throwing up to 400 meters.

The kit comes with a belt holster and also a lanyard that is a USB-C to C cable, very useful to charge on the go. Wuben also sells an accesory to mount the flashlight on a bike handlebar, I might have to get myself that!

The most direct comparisson I could think of is the LoopGear SK05 Pro, which I own several versions of. It's also a dual channel flashlight with 3 emitters for flood and 1 for throw, but in this case you can only use one channel normally, flood+throw only works during momentary turbo getting very hot. It's way smaller as it uses 2x18650 instead of 2x21700, so it's a bit more pocket friendly. The Wuben wins by a lot in output and sustained lumens, that fan is doing a lot of work here!

Hey Joao, it’s time we give you Ceuta back

You have been pretty good neighbours and we appreciate how you gave us Ceuta a few centuries ago.

As a token of our respect for you we will be giving you Ceuta back, and also giving you control of Melilla for at least a couple hundred years.

It’s only fair.

You only need to take care of the people living there, not too hard!

Wuben X5 short review

I've been recently contacted by Wuben to see if I would be interested in testing out the new X5 and how could I say no?

We've got quite an interesting flat flashlight here that solves one of the main issues of most flat flashlights, the integrated battery.

Wuben has created a battery (propietary) that can be swapped, but most importantly, the flashlight can also run on 4xAAA without losing much output (let's say a 30% drop in turbo) in case you can't get a new battery or don't have a way how to charge the included battery. This is a great system in my opinion.

We got a 3 in 1 flashlight, with a floody SST36F that measures around 4600-4700K, an UV led, and a powerful 3R laser (also available with class 1 laser in some countries). Both the SST36 and UV light use a smooth reflector.

Originally as it's mentioned in the box they were claiming 10000 candela but they've just updated the website to the actual number, which I measured at around 3900 candela at 30 seconds. I guess they'll be changing the printing on the boxes as well to reflect the actual numbers. The tint is a bit green, but I'm pleasantly surprised to see it's under 5000K as that's what I like in my flashlights. A high CRI version in the future would be welcome as well!

We have 2 buttons on the rear and a very satisfying rotary switch on the side. The main button is a two stage button that acts as a momentary on for half press, on when you click, and switching modes with half press when it's on. The second shorter button only activates the laser, and can be activated with the UV or the white light on at the same time as well. The laser button is just on and off, no momentary activation. With rotary the switch you can choose to activate the white light, lock the flashlight, or activate the UV light. The rotary switch is quite stiff and satisfying to click in place.

On the same side as the rotary switch you can find a sliding cover for the USB port. On the other side you'll have the locking mechanism to open the battery cover. Everything in the flashlight feels high quality, all the switches, locks, slides feel great.

There's a pocket clip that can be attached to either side of the flashlight, unfortunately it's not a deep carry pocket clip, a big part of the flashlight sticks out.

Included is one of the best lanyards I've received with a flashlight, as it includes a USB-C to USB-C cable, great to charge the flashlight anywhere, or to charge your phone if you forgot the cable etc. This one will get lots of use!

Thomas Bangalter’s after Daft Punk projects

Just received my copy of Mirage, happy I managed a signed one without overpaying!

I know there are copies of Dalí and the regular Chiroptera signed but I believe those are quite hard to find online, people could only get them in person… I might still have to hunt those down.

Beware! Not summer yet but Jan is already terrorizing the roads. This time they are even more stingy and can’t afford a proper RV.

New Porter Tanker waist bag

Just got the navy blue one, looks great! Colour can look a bit off because of the contrast with the orange, it looks quite blue in real life.

Weird malfunction on Noctigon KR1AA

Had it on high for a while until it stepped down because the cell was quite low. Switched it off and the aux showed red for an almost empty battery, after being off for like 5 minutes the flashlight switched on by itself on what appears to be a bit more than moonlight (around 80-90 candela), and can’t be switched off.

I unscrewed and screwed it back, aux light switches on normally and again after a few minutes the flashlight is on by itself and can’t be turned off.

I checked the cell and it’s at 3 volts.

Any of you had this happen? This is one of the newest polished aluminium ones.

I'm about to buy my third E04 Surge, and I'm thinking SFT40 3000K or SFT70 3000K.

Also wondering with these emitters if it's better to go Lume1 for maximum turbo or LumeX1 for the better sustained output.

Any recommendations from people that have bought an E04 with SFT40/70 3000K?

My plan is to get a copper one or a Ti-Cu to make it also a bit more special, but maybe that makes it get too hot?
