Hiya,
I have very, very recently experienced a breakup with my long-term partner, and as a result, I urgently need to move. This is all very fresh, and in my stress, I got the dates of my tenancy wrong. The date for us to give 1 month notice has passed by 3 days. I was going to do it today, thinking I had 4 days before the final day I could give notice. This means that instead of my periodic tenancy running to July, it would now run until August.
Due to the money situation being a bit tight, I would not be able to pay rent on both properties in full up to mid- August. My question is, would it be reasonable to request from the landlord an agreement to surrender earlier than August, but still with more than a month's notice? I am currently up to date with rent until July 9th, and I would be able to afford to give notice now and offer to pay the partial months from the up until around the 20th of July. After that, I would be in money trouble.
The property is managed privately with the landlord, and the letting agents only get involved when renewing the tenancy or collecting the rent. It is in a desirable location in London. We've lived here for over 2 years, paid on time, looked after the property, reported issues immediately, and we seem to have a good relationship with the LL. It is a periodic tenancy, and it has been confirmed that my notice period is still 1 month.
I only realised my mistake with the dates today, and I am panicking. I know you all can't read my landlords mind, but would it be likely that they will say no? I've never been in this situation before and would really appreciate some advice about how to proceed.
Thank you so much in advance for any help at all.
