Family and Comfort Focused

Any recommendations or examples on a comfort/gamily focused jon boat? I do not care about fishing

Can always build it all myself, but was wondering if there’s something out there I could reference

No console, just comfy seating 2-3 to cruise to a sand bar or chill and tan. Florida springs/rivers/intracoastal waterways.

$5k-$15k budget

My towing capacity is 3500lbs.

Or should I just look for a small dual console

Something like a Scout 175 Dorado but 1/4 the price and a Jonboat. Doable?

New vs Used Long Range Trawlers

Any opinions on new vs used Selene/Nordhavn style expedition yachts?

I’m leaning towards one in retirement in a few years. 15 year old used ones seem to run about 40% of the new cost. Even early 2020 models are close to 50% depreciated from new.

A little different from lake boats and CCs, since you don’t want to break down crossing the Pacific/Atlantic.

I can afford $2.5MM at 53 or I can wait until 57-60 and spend $5-6MM or so.

I’ve been sailing/boating around the Caribbean, not too worried about running the boat. Will probably hire a mate or captain. I’m good with engines/mechanics, but wear and tear and limited tools/parts in remote water worries me.

Worth it to wait and buy new? Or take the plunge on used a bit earlier.

What are data centers even for?

What are they for?

It doesn’t seem like they bring in many jobs. A couple geeks and some security guards? Maybe a monthly cleaning?

Doesn’t seem like they’re helping the average American.

All I can think of is it’s a way to process mass surveillance footage and people digital footprints.

Any profits from the data center is surely going out of state to billionaires in NYC.

So no local jobs, no local income.

More mass surveillance, more targeted ads, more invasive technology.

And local government is talking about helping to fund these things? For what purpose? How will they help us?

Literally what are they for???

Feeling privileged but not as much as I should

We’re a 31 year old couple who recently got married

Our HHI just jumped from individually making $140k & $60k to 250k combined and now to $350k. LCOL

$80k in debt is our new priority, aiming to have it paid off in the next 10 months. ($70k 4.5% student loans and $10k 6% car loan)

We’re sitting on about $100k in cash (move is coming up, should be all covered by new job though). Losing some money ($15k) on our house and switching to renting.

About $350k in our 401ks/IRAs. $200k of which is Roth

New expenses are about $7k a month (aiming high). $18k take home pay. Dumping $5k extra into debt.

We’ll be top 1% of households income wise in our new city.

We’re pretty frugal, couple Hondas worth $20k each, we splurge about $15k on travel but that’s about it. Pets cost us $250 a month.

Wife doesn’t get her nails done, I don’t golf, we shop at marshals and outlet stores, no boats, we bike and kayak. No luxury goods like watches or purses.

I’d love a boat. I’d love a sports car. I don’t feel like we’re anywhere near to affording them, there’s no way I would buy one unless it was like 5% or less of our net worth.

I would like to retire 50-55.

TLDR: we make a lot of money, don’t feel rich. See other people making way less buying cool boats/cars. Feel jealous and envious even though I know they can’t afford them.

At what point will we feel wealthy? Understand this in Not Rich Yet. I feel more secure and worry less about money than I used to, but not enough to say F U to my boss (who I like and would never say that, but you get the point)

Sorry for the morning coffee fueled ramble

3090

ChatGPT is saying pop_os would be the best for me. I’ve never used Linux before, I’ve never built a PC before.

Is Pop just better for these things or should I aim for Ubuntu? Seems like everything is based off Ubuntu anyways. Looking for it to be as easy as possible

• New build or upgrade? New

• Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links) None

• PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games) Local AI, Sea of Thieves, RDR

• Purchase country? Near Micro Center? US, no

• Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate) I do need one

• Budget range? (Include tax considerations) 2500 or so, less ideally, don’t want to sacrifice performance

• WiFi or wired connection? Wifi

• Size/noise constraints? None

• Color/lighting preferences? None, plain is fine

• Any other specific needs? RTX 3090, 64GB DDR4 (2x32GB), 2 TB SSD, 2TB+ HDD

First PC build, worried about breaking something while building or messing it up. Wanting to do Linux which I’ve never used before.

Buying the 3090 off eBay kinda sketches me out, if you have any insight on how to purchase I’d really appreciate it. I guess build the entire PC and add the 3090 last?
