No lost love

About 5 years ago, I came across Fundrise. Did a bit of research and thought the concept was maybe worth trying. My wife and I have a pretty diversified portfolio but real estate is something we had always steered cleared of. Never seemed like the right time, so we ve always invested in other things.
In 2021, we figured let’s give this a shot and put some money in it. Not much ( 10K ) and test the waters. Hands off approach, flagship real estate fund. Figured we would divert some cash in it if it was fullfilling our needs. Simple. We dont do complicated. Enough to do with other investments.
Well to say the experience as been underwhelming would be an understatement. We clearly never increased our capital there. 5 years in, still $400 below pur initial investment. Maybe it’s us, maybe fundrise but hands off is what they sell.
We ended up moving money to municipal bonds instead. Not juicy but at 5% tax free, it has made a whole lot more for us than fundrise ever will.
Not ranting by the way. Investments are what they are. You win some, you lose some. Now i just want to see what happens with the 10K, another 10-15 years down the road.

First time watching Deadwood

I never had the chance to watch Deadwood until now, and I'm almost done with Season 1. I started it because I wanted to learn more about that time period. So far, I've learned a couple things for sure.
1- If I didnt die of dysentery on the way there, I probably wouldn't have survived a week. Guessing I would have ended up with the pigs somewhere between "arrived in town" and getting called a c@&ksucker for the 12th time before breakfast.
2- I enjoy indoor plumbing too much.
3- My modern WiFi troubleshooting skills werent in high demand.

Our daughter’s farewell to her beloved first car.

RIP to the Italian Stallion. August 17, 2020 - May 18, 2026. The perfect compact SUV for a teenage girls first car. Such a reliable car… until she wasn’t. The Italian Stallion somehow lived to see 100,324 miles despite the number of repairs made to her. She had many surgeries, some major, some minor, some where she came out with worse problems than before. Ranging from the broken driver side visor, the backup camera that had been broken since October of 2020, all of the light panels needing replaced, all four tires being replaced (twice), the driver side door handle that broke off in the great winter storm of ‘24, her complete engine replacement that resulted in faulty wiring, constant electrical failures and the entire vehicle shutting off while still going 70mph on I-75 at 2am. Dont even get me started on the leaks or the shock absorbers that absorbed nothing but money. If anyone was wondering what FIAT stands for, it’s “Fixing It Again Tomorrow” or “Filling It up Again Tomorrow” as she did not get good gas mileage and constantly had leaky tires. To the car I made my entire personality and got a tattoo of, thank you for getting me through all 4 years of undergrad, never blowing out the speakers even when I cranked the sound all the way up, and for not literally just falling apart on the highway after the many many trips made going north and south on I-75. May she rest in pieces because she is no good for anything but parts now. 🚗
