Grounding pool fences

So I have had to get my pool's gate posts grounded as they are within 1.25m of the pools edge. Fair enough. My question is, do you think that actually reduces the risk of a shock, or is it possible that adding a ground wire to an existing circuit may actually increase the risk of a shock due to faulty wiring? Or possible dodgey work done in the future?

How are builders going with the housing slump?

A simple question for the builders on AusReno. Is the current housing market impacting your business?

Many of us are wondering if renovation quotes will become more competitive as housing investment slows down. Or, will it remain steady because housing is cheaper and buyers have more left over for upgrades?

Specialists sharing investigation results

I'm not a doctor. I have recently seen a handful of specialists who all wanted to do the same intrusive procedures, imaging, blood tests.

It seems they don't have access to each other's research, or don't share it. In my case, I wasn't seeking second opinions, this was one referring me to the next, who then did the same procedure, with the same results.

Why is that?

New slab over old

TBH I repurposed this image of an old slab. Sorry to bother who ever owns this...

My question: I'm moving a shed, and the new slab will overlap part of the old one. The new slab would be 100mm higher than the old, so can I just put it straight on top? Or do I have to rip the old one out?

Lawn recommendation required

I have about 70m2 to turf in my backyard. My house is in Bayside Melbourne, with very sandy soil that holds no water. About 1/3 will get 100% sun year round. Another third will get 100% sun for about 6 months, and the final third will be 100% in the summer.

I have SW buffalo in the front yard and it struggles when in 100% sun given the soil conditions. Someone recommended couch, but I'm concerned it won't survive in the shade of winter. So, I guess I'm still leaning towards Buffalo, but I'm worried about the water consumption. Thoughts?

Eew! Your car uses petrol?? Gross!

I have a family of pre teen kids, with a new EV. Within a few months they refuse to ride in our petrol car given the option. It is painfully uncool.

They haven't quite reached the "Eew, Gross!" stage yet, but this got me thinking. Kids that grow up in EV households are NOT going to be ok with petrol cars when they start driving. The next generation of car buyers will kill the ICE industry in much the same way as video killed the radio star.

I had ChatGPT produce this graph showing how total ev ownership will rapidly ovetake ICE. Especially due to next generation buying second hand EVs. In about 12-15 years there will be more EVs on the road than ICE. Interesting.

Novated Lease Buy Back Guarantee

Wondering if anyone has considered this. Maxxia offers guaranteed buy back price insurance. It's about $1200 for a $40k EV.

I'm wondering if it's worth paying. One consideration is that the EV tech improves and the current batch of cars lose value - battery, self drive etc. Id rather not have to buy out a car in 5 years if the tech is out of date?
