Should I file a complaint against my doctor?
So I’ll try to keep it short, I originally went to the ER (told to go by OB) for a couple symptoms I was having for 2 weeks. They did an internal ultrasound and urine test. Came back I had a cyst on each ovary and that is what was probably causing my symptoms. 2 weeks later went to my OB to talk about them and do another ultrasound. She said one of them was “weird looking” it had blood flow. She consulted with other doctors and they agreed it was just a normal cyst and would eventually pop/go away. But they would keep an eye on it and do another scan in 6 months.
But then I decided to get sterilized so she decided during the surgery she’d just try to cut the cyst off.
So surgery came, the cyst hemorrhaged and they couldn’t stop it so had to remove my ovary too. Labs come back ovarian cancer. Doctor also checked for signs of endometriosis and didn’t see anything.
Doctor calls me apologizing saying she really thought it was just a cyst and I had to see a specialist now.
Seen the specialist who wanted me to get a full hysterectomy and take out the other ovary. Not even 2 months after the first surgery, I Had my second surgery for the hysterectomy and I had tons of lesions all over and they had to take my appendix out because of it. Turns out all the lesions were endometriosis.
So not only was the first doctor wrong about the cyst not being cancer, she also documented she didn’t see any lesions and or signs of endometriosis yet I had tons of it. And I feel like If the ER or OB would have just ran bloodwork they would have seen it was cancer on my Inhibition B levels and I would have avoided having 2 surgeries back to back.
Is this like a common occurrence when it comes to ovarian cancer diagnosis or should I file a complaint?
