Co-living near NTU

Hey guys,

So I wasn't able to complete the hall payment in time because of which my hall appointment lapsed, so stupid of me I know :(((

Anyone who hasn't found a hall, how are you searching for houses in SG and those who live outside please give suggestions.

What do you think of this report?

I just saw this video by Deshbhakt channel covering the independent report of journalist Rachel Chitra about the AI-171 crash.

This explanation put forward by Rachel is much more convincing and feels well researched than the suicide theory which didn't seem convincing at all.

I have always been anti establishment so this might look biased. But, considering the numerous incidents in which Boeing is involved, I somehow don't feel this is outright bullshit. I'm sure there is some truth to it.

On a personal side, this is just infuriating, it boils me up. Let's keep our political allegiances on the side, they are literally playing with our lives here no matter what your religion, caste, identity is, it does not matter, they don't care, it could have been any one of us or our families. The company will of course try to cover it up because they want their profits, but our government is not trying to make any effort to do a fair investigation. And what about the pilot whose image is being tarnished by the Western press, now it seems whatever the Wall Street journal says becomes the truth. The sad part is I don't think it will change, we are just going to forget about this, until the next time.

What do you guys think?

Quants res in Paris/London

Hi, this is a general question regarding the hiring of a quant researcher in Paris/London. So, I am going to start my PhD in Telecom Paris soon. My PhD topic is in Mathematics but not in Statistics or Applied Mathematics. It's in Optimization/Quantum Theory. I wanted to know if firms like QRT, Optiver or London based firms hire PhD students from my background if their profile is good.

PhD in Telecom Paris

I just got an offer from Telecom Paris with a salary of 2300 (before taxes). I am an international student who has never been to Europe. I wanted to know about the housing ( I saw some stuff on this reddit which scared me), the area around it, transportation in the region and the overall experience of students.

I also have an offer from NTU singapore. Both supervisors in each university seem nice. From a personal and non academic standpoint I have an inclination towards Paris because it has been a dream of mine, but it does not have any practicality to it. Love to know people's perspective

Rejecting offer after I accepted it

Hi everyone,

So I recently got an offer from NTU, the stipend is good, my professor looks good, and the place seems really nice. However, I have applied to a PhD position whose results will come in July start which is my first choice. Of course, I cannot wait till July starts as I have to accept this offer within 10 days. If I accept this offer, and I get the other, should I and can I reverse the offer?

I don't want to do it, but a PhD is a long commitment, and the other position is something I am quite excited about in terms of the place and project. However, in the same time it's very competitive so I have to be practical because I don't have many options.

What should I do?
