display shelves

Not sure if there is a subreddit for jam room aesthetic? But thought I’d post these…

I made my jam room out of my son’s old bedroom which is just a tiny cot room. We got these nice shelves for displaying books on from B&Q (large hardware chain store in UK) and I realised today they are great for displaying my now ever growing kit when I’m not using them!

I dunno I just kinda geeked out on how ideal they are. 2 for £15 too which isn’t so bad. I’m going back to get some more, as soon as asap.

Body dump (not a joke)

I think someone’s dumped a body in a Deliveroo bag in my bin. What’s the best way to get the Police to come and have a look?

First Microdose

I took my first dose(s) yesterday. I don’t have scales and someone on here said to start with 0.20th/gram and since one little pack of these nubules is supposed to be a gram and the conveniently contained about 5 little coco pops type nubules in each one, I figured one nubule should be about right…
Had a massive shit and no breakfast and took oldest child to B&M and in the car park started coming up, thinking oh shit this feels familiar and like I needed a wank and a poo at the same time.
Then in Sainsbury’s my blood sugar started plummeting so hopped it to the baked goods and got a pack of those posh shortbreads with chocolate chips in and felt right as rain after.
But then after we got home I had the biggest headache and felt really crotchety.
Took another one later on but didn’t feel much. Haven’t slept all night and just held another under my tongue for a good while and now feel fairly fucked.

Minilab 3 annoying BONK noise:

Please help! My Arturia Minilab 3 is making this annoying BONK noise on every key and pad and I can't figure out how to get rid of it! I don't even know what it is. It plays under the synths I have plugged in on every note and still plays when i unplug everything - how is it doing this when the Arturia cannot make its own sounds>?!!!

Sampling Twig Samples:

Argh, just the other day I read a comment about someone who produces different sample packs every month (can't recall if they were for free or Barbados Drachmas....) and the poster said that this person 'even' had a sample pack of just twigs snapping and other forest sounds.

Thing is now i've been thinking alot about this and listening to Autechre's Quarastice which really just sounds like they are tested out different sample packs and thinking about doing a Forest Synth project so naturally I am looking for this flipping post and cannot find it anywhere! It could only have been on here or r/volcas or possibly a youtube video which i am also trying to scour through.

Does ANYONE know what or WHO I am talking about?! PLEASE! It's doing my flipping head in!!!

Help with recording...

Hi there,

So i've been pretty regular on this and other pages about buying and recording for DAWless. I've been working on about 3 different acts/bands/whatever for a few months now and loving the process so much. As I stated in a post yesterday I started out wanting to recreate that sort of 90's industrial Gabba of Ultraviolence but not only does it always end up being something totally different from what I had in mind but - and here is my point - the recordings sound like shit. I really want to be able to record what I play live as a single person/unit and playing it all is not even the problem as I am having so muh fun just learning all this (after years of just being a bassplayer). I use amps to play through and I really love the rough slightly distorted sound when I play through them but when I play the recordings back its just not the same. I realised through my interface I could link the interfaces so have a mic hung offf the amp to try to cature that raw, rough sound and the other input capturing the raw feed from the mixer....

oh yeah, on that note; my set-up is a Volca Sample; Volca Kick; Volca Bass; Volca FM; All going into the mixer (see below) and through the interface. The Volcas and Arturia are connected through a DoReMidi thru-6 Pro. Arturia keyboard + DoeReMidi are being powered through this box but are not going into the Mac this way.

Can the recording go through the DoReMidi or is it just for a clock/sync? Thats how new I am to this that I don't even know.

On the mixer I have the sound going from the Volcas out the CTRL Room Out Socket (Left) into the interface and the Main out going straight into the amp which is then picked up by a mic plugged into the second inteface. On Garageband i've been selecting both lines to be picked up on the same track (1+2). it would be great to control the instruments seperately as seperate tracks but i've been trying to do it all DAWless so far and I wouldn't know how anyway.

https://deep-lunge.bandcamp.com/album/awful-music-for-awful-people

Sometimes some tracks sound amazing and sometimes shit sounds like its being played from a cupboard onboard the Titanic, but i seriouldy don't understand why and how when my set-up is the same....

PLEASE be aware most of these tracks I've hacked together for the sake of this post/question so forgive their rough/shite editing... (I mainly keep these pages to mak eme feel good about what I'm traying to do and to send to a friend for inspiration. I DO NOT consider them GOOD let alone finished pieces of music. Ta.

For instance, my track French Costco (Track 4 at the time of writing. Subject to change, ha ha...), sounds totally different from all the others which all sound up-front and clear. This sounds far away and the master track is so quiet I had to try to bring it up in the Bandcamp mixer just for it to be hearable. While,, other tracks are SO loud I have to turn them down drastically - yet as far as I am aware I am doing nothing to my recording set-up...!

I used to have so much extra noise per-track/instrument (as can be hear on track 5/Robocop Takes A Nap) but i bought those little thingies for each Volca to dampen it so it doesn't sound so bad as my previous stuff.

You guys that record shit live straight from your living rooms make it sound album quality - how are you doing it and what am I doing wrong?! I recently watched a Ryan Waingo video on seting up your Volcas through your DAW and right now its starting to not loook so bad an option. SO, what do you guys (and i wish, Gals) do to soud so great....?

P.S. all these tracks have been recorded at vastly different times in my learning process (listening right now on headphones I realise that track 5 is coming entirely thru the right channel for some reason). Please don't hate on me for being clueless or for my music being shit - i'm really not asking for you opinion on the music - but please do helo me understand how to record this shit as I make it. ...

My other *thing* is https://thelefthandsevered.bandcamp.com/ which will probably sound even worse as it older, but it's all Grist for the Learning Mill, right?

Many Many thanks! I LOVE this group! Sorry for the LONG post!

Do you even Industrial tho Bro?

Does anyone here do like PROPER Industrial music with their set-up? I'm thinking Keanuh-era Ministry, sort of thing. I could really do with some pointers on beats and sounds. I also really love Ultraviolence which i think of a a genre in itself but am aware its also a band/Act. Anytime people post about Industrial Techno it just doesn't do it for me. Plus i'm not interested in getting people to 'dance' - I just wanna shave their faces off with my horrible music. Industrial Gabba maybe?

Any more pointers for things to listen to in this kind of avenue much encouraged!

Electron model:samples

Anyone had a go on the Electron model:samples at all? It looks so cool and affordable 2nd hand but never seen or heard of it before.

Cheers.

How to make this sound?

Im wondering if anyone knows what makes this bass sound or how to make it? I love it so much. I know it’s a kinda classic industrial sound but I’d really like to work it out. Is it a particular synth? I have a Korg Volca FM and trying to recreate it with the ARP on which is close but no cigar.

In case anyone is wondering it’s Cristopher Samuel’s - More Then Human. It’s a great track!

Thanks!

TD-3 sync w/ Volcas?

Just recently got this disgusting 🤢 green Behringer TD-3 and trying to get it to sync to my Volcas but they are not having it.
Has anyone else tried this or know of a solution?

Arg Volca kick probs

OK so I know I posted before with a similar problem with my Volca Bass but this is ridiculous. I recently got a Volca Kick and all I’m trying to get is a simple four on the floor beat and it can’t stay in time. I’ve learnt from last time and made sure the volume is lower than the others and checked the cables and rerouted cables so it’s second in line after my Sample rather than last but it just won’t stay in time. It’s sooooo frustrating!

So I just got my DoReMidi and my Arturia Minilab 3 today! Plugged it all in and it worked off the bat. Only strange thing is that my Volca Bass and Volca FM seem to be playing at the same time through the Arturia! It sounds awesome, however I thought you could separate your Volcas through the Minilab and assign one to each pad. Anyone know how to do this? Youtub tutorials are no help!

Took over my sons tiny bedroom for a studio (don’t worry he moved into my ex’s room 😉) but space, despite having two desks, is severely lacking already. Would love to hear of - or see - any practical storage solutions for gear - particularly that can be wall mounted. Cheers!

Please can anyone explain why my Volca Bass is doing this? It’s driving me Barmy. Never had this happen before.

Thank you.
