Pennies!

My dad loved his coins but sold much of his collection before he passed. I’m now clearing some of his stuff and can across these (cigar?) boxes of Pennie’s. The full ones are heavy! I saw a couple from 1912 but many go all the way up to the 1950s. Any suggestions as to which years I should look out for or what to do with them?

Cupboard find (1934)

I found this in a cupboard at my parent’s place. Would have been there for decades. Seems to be central Melbourne, corner of Bourne and Swanston streets. Likely Anzac Day march, right?

Old maps

Clearing out my parents house and I just found these. They are very old and were under a bunch of family history stuff. Any idea (beyond the obvious) what they might be?

What were they doing?

At 5am this morning, while walking to the gym, I came across what I at first thought was a moving van.

As I walked past I realised that there were two guys, both wearing high viz tops, emptying bins (red and green tops) into massive tarpaulin bags and loading them into the back of the van. One guy was by the truck and the other was dragging one of the bags from across the road towards it. He didn’t seem bothered by my presence.

I walked past, did a bit of a double take, and walked around the corner. I then went back a little and shot this pic.

About 40 mins later, on my way back I noticed that they had emptied the bins of about 16-18 houses, just at one end of the street.

I have to admit that I was a bit unnerved once I realised how odd it seemed, and I certainly looked over my shoulder as I turned the corner and continued on my way.

Does anyone have any idea what they could have been doing?
