Early example of the “deadmau5 trance pluck” style.

Hey guys. I’d posted a discussion about the origin of this particular sound, especially when it plays in 8th-notes to provide not just the groove but also the central atmosphere and melody of the track. u/Spartan_138 also posted on this on r/trance and r/deadmau5 6 years ago.

Thanks to the post I discovered what I (and quite a few others) thought was arguably the earliest example of the style: Probspot’s Foreplay, released in 2004.

However, I recently listened to James Holden’s remix of Opus III’s Fine Day, released in 2002, and I have to say that despite being older, it sounds way closer. And I think it’s fair to call this a forerunner, not to mention James Holden was a pretty pioneering artist in general.

The closest early deadmau5 track to this one I can think of his remix of Morgan Page’s The Longest Road released in 2008.

Anyhow, I think the tune is a bop and hope you like it too.

Edit: listen from the 2:00 minute mark.

“Mixes” where the original product was the “mix”?

Hi. I randomly thought about whether there are artists that make long-form tracks that behave less like an individual piece and more like a continuously evolving thing, or at least pieces morphing into each other. But the pieces are not standalone or discrete, and the “mix” _is_ the original creative product.

There probably are, like anything, but I couldn’t find any. Ambient music is probably the most likely to have something like this but I’m looking for a more percussive vibe, like prog.

Thanks.

Any idea on the vocal sample used in Accadia - Into The Dawn (James Holden Remix)?

It's first heard at 5:18 and repeats throughout the song. I've only heard it on this remix. The heavily processed sound of a sensual female vocal.
