Sent FifthThird a goodwill request letter for late payment that is on my credit file from an old loan that has been closed for over a year, they sent me a print out of the loan installments... what does this mean?

As the title says.

I had an auto loan through fifth third bank that I paid off over a year ago. I had a 60 day late payment on the loan that is absolutely killing my credit score. I sent them a goodwill request letter two weeks ago. Today I received an envelope from them, inside was a 4 page print out of the repayments made on my loan and nothing else.

I'm not sure what to make of it. Does this mean they will not remove the late payment from me credit report?

Has anyone here taken SRBA’s landing skills course?

I’m considering taking Tom’s landing skills course this September.

Any feedback or thoughts from people who’ve taken it already?

The camouflage headlamp (this has to be satire, right?)

I lost it at “discrete design” and “don’t let its size fool you.”

What’s going on with Yaesu prices (in the USA)?

My girlfriend and I got into amateur radio about 6 months ago and bought a Yaesu VX-6 and FT-4.

I paid $220 for the VX-6, and she got the FT-4 for $95 - which was already up from $80 that it used to cost.

I just looked at those same radios today and the VX-6 is now $280 and the FT-4 is a whopping $150.

The VX-6 is an old radio, why has the price gone up so much? And the FT-4 is over 50% more expensive than it was just a couple months ago, nearly 2x the price it was when it was released a few years ago.

Are prices ever going to come down? (I know they’re not.)

It’s super disheartening to see how expensive everything is getting.

Should I pay off my debt 100% before I start saving?

Long story short, I ended up in about $42k worth of credit card debt mostly due to alcoholism. I've been sober for a year now and over the last 6 months I paid down my credit cards to $18k and transferred it to a student loan with 8% interest. I was paying over $600 in interest per month, now it's down to $140 or so.

Everything I pay in the first 180 days even gets back-dated to the original loan date and applied to the principle meaning any interest accrued will be adjusted based on the principle balance at the 180 day mark.

Now that I finally have some breathing room (compared to $42k worth of credit card debt), is it worth starting to save some of my money, or should I put everything I have towards this student loan, like I've been doing for my credit cards the last 6 months?

After taxes, retirement, healthcare, and rent I net a little over $6k/month. Even at the worst of my debt I would keep around $1000 cash in my bank.

I'm thinking that I should make the most of this 180-day "grace period," if you will and pay down the principle as much as possible. If I can put $4k/mo towards the loan then I'll be able to pay it off, but if I only put $2k/mo then I'll have $8,000 or so left that will accrue interest.

Should I put everything I have towards paying off the last of my debt, or should I start building up savings now?

Battery powered UHF radio terminal

My first real raspberry pi project and it was a blast.

Built what’s called an AllStarLink node into a small pelican case that can be powered via USB, DC power, or battery. All BMS/charging is built into the UPS board I used.

Overall I’m super happy with the project. The last thing I need to do is wire the fan to the raspberry pi fan connector, but that should be easy. Just need to order a connector and make an adapter.

Battery powered AllStarLink Node

This project has been a while in the making, but it’s finally complete. I am working on connecting the fan to the raspberry pi fan socket, but right now it just runs at full speed. The only thing I might add to it is an LTE chip with mobile data.

It can plug into Ethernet or auto connect to my cell phone’s hot spot if there isn’t a wired connection.

It has 20,000mAh of battery power. Charges via USB-C or 6-18v DC through the barrel jack.

Using a quick connect camera mount for my HT

I've been looking for a low profile quick disconnect solution to hold my VX-6 on my backpack and parachute harness. This is a Peak-Designs Capture Clip made for cameras and.I already had it laying around at my house. I drilled a 2.5mm hole in the plate to attach it to the radio, and added some VHB tape to help support it. It held up to a BASE jump, and lets me talk to my buddies without having to fish around in my pocket for the radio.

If anyone is looking for a heavy duty belt/packpack, or even parachute harness mounting solution, I don't think it gets any better than this.

Too bad I can't add a video to photo post, or else I'd show you how the clip works.

Yaesu FTM-150 started broadcasting this sound after every transmission and reception.

Does anyone know what this tone is that my Yaesu FTM-150 is broadcasting after every transmission and reception?

Put an Anytone D890 on a mountain overlooking my city to use as a repeater to talk with my friends for a night.

I put my Anytone D890 on a mountain overlooking the city I live in so my buddies and I across town could use it as a repeater. I wrapped it in aluminum tape to keep the sun off as much as possible then put it in some rocks. Winds were 45mph in town today and probably 60+mph on the mountain when I went to retrieve it. It was difficult to stand up and walk, but the radio was right where I left it.

I picked simplex UHF and VHF frequencies and put it in cross band repeater mode. Then three of us programmed our radios split to receive on VHF, and transmit on UHF.

It worked really well for the night. The furthest person was about 20 miles away. We are all licensed, and the only rule I broke was the fact that the repeater did not identify itself every 10 minutes. I’ll look into how I can solve that problem next time we do this.

But overall it was fun to have a semi-closed repeater. I’m sure some people in town listened to us, but we didn’t have the normal audience of every local ham operator.

Looking for a skilled flashlight builder to turn this F-16 (fighter jet) spark plug into a flashlight.

Former F-16 pilot here. I have a spark plug (igniter) from a GE-129 engine that is just begging to be made into a flashlight.

It’s perfectly the side of two 18650 batteries.

I’m thinking the small extrusion on the left side could be cut off, and a tail cap made to thread onto those big threads. Then a reflector housing built that threads onto the right side.

The inside also has a ceramic bushing of sorts that needs to be machined out.

Is there anyone who you’d recommend to contact regarding a project like this? Willing to spend a decent price for the right product.

Thank you!

I need 24v for my radio project and this converter claims it has a 240w output with 90% efficiency. That means it’s could see up to about 27amps on the input.

But the wires are about 16awg. I don’t see in what world these 16awg wires could sustain a 27amp load.

Does anyone have experience with these and are they safe? I plan on using it around 200w load.
