Respect the Golden Age Captain America (Timely Comics)

Come on, y'all already know what header is.

The story of Captain America is a simple one. A group of American scientists create a "Super-Soldier Serum" in anticipation of the USA joining the second World War raging in Europe. The first test subject is Private Steve Rogers, a patriotic but sickly young man who is given enhanced strength, speed and intelligence by the Serum. But before more serum can be made, a Nazi spy kills the only scientist who knew the entire formula, leaving Steve the sole beneficiary of the project. Steve is given the identity of Captain America, and acts as a spy-hunter and crime-buster alongside his young pal Bucky Barnes.

Most of Cap's adventures published before his comeback in The Avengers #3 are nebulously canon. Many of the contradict current Marvel canon, and modern comics have heavily implied that many Golden Age comics were in-universe propaganda loosely based on the real exploits of heroes in that era. Thus we've decided to publish this respect thread separately from the Captain America Thread.

This thread was a collaboration with u/kalebsantos

Warning: These 1940s comics can get really, really racist with the depiction of non-white characters.

As punishment for consorting with mortals Koliak was cursed to never again be seen by them; he now exists only as the Northern Lights in the Arctic Circle. Using her demigoddess powers and assisted by her brother Tanero, Nelvana is the defender of the Inuit people living in the far north of Canada. After learning more of the threat posed by the Axis powers Nelvana expands her range to all of Canada, traveling South and creating the identity of secret agent Alana North.

Nelvana was one of the very first superheroines, debuting several months before the first appearance of Wonder Woman, and is one of the most recognizable Canadian superheroes from the Golden Age of Comics.

Respect Taarna, the Last Taarakian (Heavy Metal)

>To defend, this is the pact. But when life loses its value and is taken for naught, then the pact if to avenge.

Taarna is the last Taarakian and protector of balance in the universe. Intrinsically tied to the fabric of reality, she travels between planets and dimensions to save civilizations and defeat those that harm others.

Taarna lacks an overarching story and her canon is somewhat loose. In particularly The Last Taarakian comic and its prequel short story seem to be a sort of alternate retelling of her original story in the Heavy Metal movie. I have marked these feats in Bold.

There's also a lot of nudity in this thread so open links at your own risk.

Respect Delilah Hack, The Lunch Lady (Hack/Slash Comics)

In the world of Hack/Slash, Slashers (or Revenants) are a phenomena when a human's hatred causes them to revive as an undead serial killer after they die. In the mid-1980s the United States government began research into Slashers in order to weaponize him. Dr. Jack Hack was in the psychology division of this program, which is how he met Delilah Cordero.

Delilah fit the profile of a potential Slasher: she was a loner, an individualist, obsessive, and prone to fits of anger and violence. But more than that she was the woman who Jack soon fell in love with, and the two abandoned the projected and eloped. Eventually they had a daughter, Cassandra Hack. But Jack's past began catching up to him, and he abandoned his family in hopes to keep them safe.

Delilah didn't take abandonment well. She became obsessive over keeping Cassie safe, and when she started being bullied at school Delilah got violent. She began hunting down and killing the children who tormented Cassie, using her job as school lunch lady to dispose of the bodies by serving them in the cafeteria. Cassie eventually figured it out and went to the police, and Delilah drowned herself in a pot of boiling gravy when confronted.

But she didn't stay dead.

The Lunch Lady rose from the grave and continued her killing spree at Cassie's new school, only stopping when Cassie killed her again herself. This began Casssandra Hack's career as a Slasher Hunter. The Lunch Lady returned several times; once she was revived by Herbert West, the Re-Animator and Jack Hack's associate, and again she was sent to possess a body by Satan himself in a ploy to manipulate Cassie.

Captain America was kinda mid under Simon and Kirby and unbelievably boring after they left

Conversely, All-Star Comics became good once Kanigher started writing

What if at the end of episode 8 he looks in the mirror and says “Mother’s Milk. What a joke.” Then he calls himself Frenchie’s Milk and impregnates Kimiko

I'd post a picture of "Whitewash" Jones from the Young Allies but I'm afraid I could actually get banned for that
