Optimized my setup so it all fits in a small bag. And finally found a great magnetic stand. Keyboard is a Yunzii AL68 and it's so pleasant to type on. Love working on the byok!
Suki was my soul cat. My wife and I adopted her July 2024 when she was just a baby. She was the most beautiful and unique green eyed Siamese mix. She had the cutest little "brrt" meow. I work from home two days out of the week so she would always keep me company. She'd also greet us whenever we came home by scratching the rug near the door. My wife called this her "celebratory scratchies" and it was something I looked forward to every day. Whenever we had a rough day at work, we'd always say "we get to see Chuki!" when driving home because we knew she would cheer us up.
We adopted Suki a few months after my wife's 10 year old cat, Luna, had passed. And for the nearly two years we had Suki, she was always such a ray of sunshine. Last year, she started having some health issues. First, she had these small bumps all up her front arms. We took her to the vet and they prescribed prednisolone and the bumps went away. Then later in 2025, she would throw up two or three times a day. We took her to the vet again and they noticed more bumps on her ears so they prescribed prednisolone again. The vomiting stopped and the bumps went away and Suki was great.
Last month, she was lethargic and the vet said she needed a blood transfusion. She was also tested and found to be FIV positive. When we adopted her, she was FIV negative and she had been an indoor cat ever since. We assume it was passed down from her mother, who was probably feral. We were devastated but the transfusion was a success and she was back to her regular self in a few weeks. After the transfusion, she was on 1.5 ml of prednisolone for two weeks then it was brought down to 1.2ml. She'd been doing great up until Sunday the 17th. She would get her medicine with her wet food at 8 am so she had gotten in the habit of waking me up at 7 demanding her breakfast pate. But on Sunday morning, she didn't come into our room to wake us up. When we saw her, she was low energy but still eating and drinking water.
I immediately knew something was wrong so we scheduled a vet visit for Tuesday. They drew her blood and her PCV was only 27%. It had been 25% three weeks ago after the blood transfusion so it should've been higher by now. The vet told us to go back up to 1.5ml of pred and while she remained lethargic, she was still eating and drinking water. She still hopped up on the couch and purred whenever I pet her. I expected her to recover but this past Saturday afternoon, she stopped eating and was drinking a lot of water. Then on Sunday, she stopped eating altogether.
Sunday night we decided to take her to the ER vet. She could barely walk. The vet told us she was very sick and all the water inside of her was stuck due to what she suspected to be either a tumor or an issue with her organs. We made the hard decision to put her down that night. They brought her into our room and we were able to say goodbye. She was meowing and writhing a bit, perhaps she was uncomfortable but she was snuggled up on a fluffy cat bed and blanket. We told her we loved her and petted her until she stopped breathing. She died in my wife and my arms right there without euthanasia. It was just the three of us in the room.
Although we only had her for two years, she fit right in immediately. We loved her from the moment we met her and she very clearly loved us back. It breaks my heart so much because I feel like we could've done more for her had we known she was FIV pos last year when the bumps first appeared. We had such a great month with her after her transfusion, I thought she was back to 100% because of that.
I'll miss her forever. She was truly my soul cat. I feel so lucky that we had her in our home and in our hearts.
About a month ago, our cat Suki (2 years old, female, spayed, FIV pos) became super lethargic. Turned out her red blood cell count was super low. She had a blood transfusion and was back to her normal self within a week or two. Her blood levels were up to 25 a week after the transfusion.
Our regular vet gave her a prescription of prednisolone (1.5 ml 2/day for two weeks then 1.2 ml 2/day for two weeks) and we were going to go for a follow up this week. Scheduled a vet visit for today at 3:30.
In the month since her transfusion, she's been active and energetic. Back to her regular self.
On Saturday night, she was being her normal active self and tried to jump on a shelf (about 3 feet high) but she miscalculated and slipped. She scratched her belly a little bit (not deep and didn't draw any blood, just a little scratch) but after the slip, she's been acting a bit more withdrawn.
We'd been giving her her predinsolone with wet food at 8 am (and 8 in the evening too) so she had started waking us up at 7 am every morning for her medicine/food combo (she loves perfect portions) but on Sunday morning, she didn't wake us up. She didn't even go upstairs. At 8, I made her medicine/wet food mix and she ate half of it then ate the rest a little while later.
She's eating, using her litter box, grooming, purring, and is attentive. She also meows when she wants something and moves from room to room. Or hops up on her favorite spot on the couch. She's just been a bit lower energy than usual. This morning, her right eye was closed and a bit watery. Perhaps she got something in it?
Could these be signs of a normal infection or something similar? I'm hoping some antibiotics can help her start feeling better. Thankfully she is much more active than last month when she was anemic.
Seeing her vet later today but just wondering what might be going on.
Thank you.
