Can't tell if we've removed enough

The lighting is a bit different on all the photos. Photo onehas a lot more natural light but they're all natural lught. Last pic is where we started.

We did the drum sander but had to rush through it because the rental was due back. Our mistake, we should have kept it another day :/ the orbital sander we're using is kinda meh, feels like it's not doing anything.

Now we're wondering if we've actually removed the top later of seal/finish/whatever the prev owners used. How can we tell?

Can I cross into USA by land without my American passport?

I did look it up, but sometimes Google gives bad info.

I am a US citizen/Canadian PR. I currently don't have my passport (mailed it to the US for renewal), but there's currently a family emergency happening that I may have to cross the border for.

Can I bring my PR card/Ontario license and official birth certificate to cross back into the States?

Similarly, to get back into Canada, is just my PR card okay?

Contractor to install new exterior door?

My husband and I have recently bought a house that has an extra entrance to the basement on the exterior. Upon our home inspection, it was found that the door is an interior door not an exterior. We want to replace this for safety and security, so we were wondering if anyone could recommend a contractor who can do work like this? And if you would have a general price for their similar work?

We're a little worried no one will take this job on because the door is technically not to code since it swings open over a set of stairs, but it's currently allowed due to the home's age.

Square One home insurance?

Hello,

My husband and I are first time home buyers and are shopping around for home insurance. We have bought a century home in SW Ontario, and we are looking at Square One for insurance.

After looking at their reviews online (4.9 with 11k+ reviews) I'm weirded out... So many of the reviews start with the same exact sentence or structure. Either they're botting fake reviews imo or tons of people are using AI to write their reviews, lol.

If you have home insurance through them, what are your experiences?

Issuing new US passport under married name

Hi all,

I live in Canada and will be applying for a US passport renewal with my married name using my certified marriage certificate via mail.

I have a few kind of dumb questions. Just want to make sure I do this right the first time.

  1. is it even possible to apply for a renewal at the moment? My passport expires in 2029. I don't know if they're strict about that timeline.

  2. when filling out the online form DS-82 should I insert my information as my new last name in the about the applicant section? Or does it need to be my current legal name?

  3. should I change my name with social security first? Or passport then social security

Does marriage certificate with maiden name listed count as proof of name change for US passport renewal?

Hey all,

I live in Canada as a permanent resident and I'd like to change my name to my husband's. Does my Ontario marriage certificate count as a name change document for US passport renewals even though it has my maiden name listed?

The US consulate has been less than helpful and basically keeps going "lol idk! check our website" to me when I ask.

Can you make notes when you update your reading status?

Am I missing something here? One of the things I liked to do on Goodreads is make notes when I updated my reading status. Is there a way to do that on Fable? I like looking back and seeing my reactions to certain scenes/parts of the book.
