Enjoyed it so much free from Epic that I'm buying it on Steam

Gonna get the DLC too. Devs deserve my money.

I saw that it's possible to transfer saves too, so that's great (even if I'm only at Destiny level 3).

Have been having fun with Ayla the most, but Octave and Calie has been the most productive out of the four for me so far. Having trouble utilizing Kiran and his Signature move, though.

Any tips for the DLC characters? (And intermediate / advanced tips on general)

Would we have been bitching less if Elena swapped with Rashid, and Arjun swapped with Alex?

Assume that the three bosses per season, the CotW, Ingrid to close out World Tour, and Tifa and Bosch for S4, are locked in their spots.

  • We get an SF3 rep early, esp since Alex will be much later
  • We get less salt from Yssar
  • We get a new character alongside the others in S3, and Arjun gets World Tour characterization
  • We get a fan favorite returner in Alex in S4, PLUS we avoid the whole cousin bit since he won't have World Tour stuff
  • S4 isn't totally all new characters

Re: Tifa and Square's protectiveness

Noted something during the podcast Brian F and Idom are hosting, with PhiDX guesting. They were talking about the restrictions Square had with Noctis in Tekken:

(relevant detail starts at 05:18 if you want the exact words) https://youtu.be/3LNrg0p0HfE?t=318

TL;DW bit: In Tekken 7, some victory poses, like Brian bashing on the downed opponent, do not work on Noctis at all. PhiDX says that some of the stipulations include the FF characters not allowed to be portrayed as dead outside their original game (Although I am not sure if this is paraphrasing or speculation). There's also mention of win poses of sitting on the opponent being restricted, but I don't play Tekken enough to verify it (Can someone chime in and provide additional info?).

Given that, I wonder if some of the win poses in SF6 will change. IMO none of them really show anything as brutal as Brian's win screen, but maybe Square is still very restrictive and have those changed.

Victory poses with interaction with the opponent:

  • Juri. Sits on opponent.
  • Marisa. Picks up opponent.
  • JP. Steps over opponent's face.
  • Akuma. Picks up an unconscious opponent by the neck, then drops them.
  • AKI. Crawls over opponent (who is clearly still alive).
  • Bison. Shows unconscious opponent in the foreground.
  • Sagat. Towers over opponent after feinting with a downward elbow.
  • Alex. Shows unconscious opponent in the foreground.
  • Ingrid. Picture of the unconscious opponent's face.

What are the other games's version of "Practice your anti-airs"?

One common advice for new players early on when they are jumping into Street Fighter is to practice their anti-airs. This gives them a huge leg up because the people they fight at the rookie levels are jump-happy, and the advice introduces them to basic defense.

I don't play enough of the others to know what the equivalent is, though. I'm guessing it's also important for Capcom and SNK games, but what about Mortal Kombat? Tekken? Dead or Alive?

These two are about the same age - Lily might even be older than Yasmine.

Yasmine's bio states she's in high school. Guesstimates on Lily's age based off lore put her somewhere between 16-19 (or even as low as 15)

They really should have gone for an older vibe with Lily.

Season 4 Gameplay Speculation (and comparison to prev. seasons)

So far we got these:

Season 1:

  • AKI - Setplay involving the Poison mechanic
  • Rashid - mobile rushdown (with pocket SA2 )
  • Ed - midrange poker
  • Akuma - Shoto to the MAX

Season 2

  • Bison - Big button aggro with Mine setplay(?)
  • Terry - Shoto Royale
  • Mai - SF6 system maximizer and all-rounder , fan bullshit
  • Elena - pokes and mix-up

Season 3

  • Sagat - Offense at any range
  • Viper - High damage, very technical
  • Alex - Brawler/Grappler hybrid with Stance and Command Grab threat
  • Ingrid - Zoner with stocks

Each season has relatively varied gameplay among its cast, though I haven't seen anyone with a notably strong defense (since SF6's system seems to push the game towards offense)

What's everyone's guesses as to how our newcomers and Tifa will play? And Bosch, I guess. Here are my unfounded guesses, for what it's worth:

  • Yasmin - her description and comparing her visual design to the other three makes me think of rushdown. Some bird-like motif might mean mobile options. Knife fighting implies being fast and in-your-face too. Adon/Yang/Lucia.
  • Arjun - A yoga flame like move, his stature, and his variant yoga style gives me vibes of Dhalsim specials tacked onto a Hugo/Sagat body. A Big button zoner, maybe even feeling like OG Sagat's oppressiveness with a command grab. He might even be a charge character since he has emphasis on holding his breath (but I wouldn't count on it).
  • Tifa - her FF gameplay also makes me think of rushdown, with a material twist. Since she'll pull in casuals I expect Capcom to give her a low skill floor, but I hope she has a high ceiling. Cammy / Karin with Materia maybe being a "stance" mechanic (element change also changes her move properties).
  • Bosch - Almost definitely a Shoto. He should still have Luke influences (the cap he was holding strongly implies this), but the story retcon means he only mildly got touched by Psycho Power. Maybe he'll be the Sakura to Luke's Ryu.
