Are med schools failing recent graduates? (reference to the junior doc car crash cpr post)

The post made recently by a JMO was asking whether to give CPR while the patient was sitting upwards...

I don't mean to shame anyone but why are we asking questions like these? The reason I make this post is because I've noticed a bit of an influx of junior doctors not knowing basic things they should know.

A reminder to not do Psychiatry if you're not passionate about it

I agree with the notion that at the end of the day, Medicine is work and if you can tolerate a specialty/find a level of interest in it, if it has other things going for it, then its fine to pursue it.

I thought the same with Psychiatry. However, based on a surprising number of recent experiences of colleagues, I'd make an argument that you need to be passionate.

I've seen several people enter Psychiatry for the lifestyle it offers and the relative quick time it takes to reach consultancy. Only to end up wishing they did something else. Because the work truly does suck if you don't have a real interest in it. Those who do actually enjoy Psych are doing great though.

TLDR; Choosing a lifestyle specialty is completely fine, but with Psychiatry you may find yourself wishing you chose something else if you don't have a passion for it. The lifestyle struggles to compensate for work many people may hate.
