With all the bike thefts, anyone beefing up garage security?

Lately it seems like there have been a lot more bike thefts than I usually hear about. I'm working on getting some kind of alarm system for our detached garage, but I haven't stepped up to locking up bikes in the garage yet because it seems like a PITA.

Anyone else stepping up security?

Local metal fabricator that can take on a small and unusual project?

So...I got a chairlift from Mt. Hood Meadows when they got rid of the old Blue chair. I want to hang it on my porch, but the pole section is way too long. Is there a metal fab shop out there that's set up to cut it down and re-attach? I need to keep both ends (i.e., the mount on the top and the mounting points for the chair on the bottom), so a chunk has to come out of the middle.

Obviously looking for a repair that's as strong as the original.

Anyone know a shop that might be willing to tinker with this weird one-off project?

Trouble with Abode Keypad 2 in detached garage

I bought a hub, Keypad 2 and motion sensor for security in a detached garage; they arrived yesterday and I spent this morning setting things up.

So...what I want to happen: someone walks into the garage, the keypad beeps or flashes, you type in the PIN, and the alarm on the hub doesn't go off.

What actually happens: you walk into the garage, there's no visual or audible indication the alarm has been tripped, and the alarm on the hub goes off (seems to happen immediately, not after 60 seconds, which is the delay setting). Putting in the PIN on the keypad does disarm the alarm though.

So I'm coming to realize that ChatGPT or maybe Claude (don't remember which one I talked to) steered me wrong on this. It seems I could get that audible alert by adding a siren to the system, either the indoor or outdoor versions. Is there any way to fix this without buying more equipment?

Also, I'm within the return period and I'm starting to see that the app kind of sucks and support is questionable. Should I just cut my losses, return everything, and go with SimpliSafe?

Do Tetrapak containers really get recycled in Portland?

So I know that the flyer from the city says that we can recycle Tetra Pak containers in the blue bin, but I looked into what's involved in recycling them (the foil layer has to be mechanically separated at a dedicated facility) and I'm finding it hard to believe that actually happens. If they're not getting recycled, I could just start throwing them out, or maybe switch to other packaging. Does anyone know for sure one way or the other if they really get recycled?
