How do you make the game feel more 'at home' as a non-american?
I know there are packs focused on other cultures, but they feel like they're more trying to represent American minorities (and even that not often very well, from what I gather) rather than geographically separate cultures. Meaning, the game as a whole continues to feel very north American. Of course I'd rather some marginalised minorities get representation, they need it more than me as someone from a different culture altogether. And it makes sense, the game was developed in the US and there's no way to make the game feel like home for every culture of the world.
I'm not even looking for a discussion about representation here, but rather, I'd love to exchange some ideas of what people do to have parts of the game feel more like the life you're used to! Here's some things I do:
-build a new highschool from scratch
-delete harvest fest
-ignore most of the extracurriculars and just go for chess, drama and computer team
-take one of the worlds that don't have a lot of buildings as background deco and fully dedicate it to just buildings in the style of my cultural region (I wish newcrest was emptier so I could use it but alas)
-have made over versions of the townies saved to replace them with every save (there's of course none of my traditional clothing, but people do dress a little differently than North Americans casually and some of the clothes in the game work for that)
-gravitate towards recipes I'm used to (again there's obv none of my traditional foods but there's enough stuff to choose from and make it feel similar enough to how I eat)
-loads of lots with several buildings on them (as getaways, residential rentals, and businesses) because everything being so spaced out feels like American suburbia
I wish I could put some of the mount komorebi activities in other worlds as mountain related activities are pretty central to my culture! Is there any way to do that?
Does anyone else do something like this? If so, I'd love to hear what you do!
