A Weight I Literally Do Not Ever Remember Seeing
Yesterday I finally got under 160, for the first time since I was probably a senior in high school, nearly 45 years ago. Seeing "159.6" on the scale was something my brain almost couldn't process. (60 F 5'6")
I've lost almost 30 lbs since January on compounded sema, averaging a pretty steady .84 lbs lost each week. Sometimes it'll slow a bit, but then I'll drop some extra weight and go right back to the .84 average--it also seemed to get back on track when I went up first to 1.0mg and now 1.4mg (if I have to go up more, I will.) I have fought through a fair amount of side effects, but these days I feel pretty good as long as I keep the constipation at bay. (I take Mag07 every night, a fiber bar every day, and my turmeric/fish oil/vitamin d/biotin/b complex supplement stack often seems to get things moving as well.)
But this is only the latest chapter in my weight loss. In 2007 I weighed 251 lbs, and was miserable physically and psychologically after multiple big losses and regains. The first picture was taken in 2009, and within a month I started buckling down and dropped to around 205, bouncing between there and 215 for the next 8 years. Then I went low carb and got down to around 175 in 2018, bouncing between there and 189 until last year.
After slogging through the holidays I decided that there was no way I was going to breach 162 (which I had gotten down to in college after the freshman 30+ got me up to 210) without help, and besides, I think I had proven that I could indeed do all of the "willpower! exercise! track calories! eat clean!" but that it wasn't going to get me to a healthy BMI (around 154 at 5'6"). I wasn't really sure that a GLP-1 would do anything, but I've tried every other weight-loss "solution" since I was first dropped off at Weight Watchers when I was 10, so might as well try this one! I felt the food noise disappear within 24 hours, and it was just stunning to me that I had lived with that for so long--I told my dad that I had basically been hungry my entire life.
I was a few lbs heavier in the second photo than I am now, but you get the idea. My "goal" is 145, so still a little ways to go, but we'll also just see where my body lands. I need to get better about resistance training more regularly, but I do okay with exercise. And I have zero intention of stopping the drug, though I hope to be able to titrate back down at some point for maintenance.
The most important thing--don't ever give up. If you have to tread water for a while, that is still better than where you started. (It took me well over 14,000 days to finally get to 162 again!)
