Naltrexone without therapy

My new primary care physician that recently prescribed my Naltrexone highly recommended that I also find a therapist.

I’ve been to rehab, done outpatient, individual therapy with probably 4 different therapists and none of it worked for me. With the support of my partner, I’ve been able to drive down my drinking significantly and I also overcame a 15 year intense marijuana addiction without therapeutic support.

Wondering if anyone else is taking naltrexone without also seeing a therapist. Or is it worthwhile trying to find another one? I’m just feeling discouraged based on past experiences and I also don’t have much disposable income (although I do have US health insurance).

Tips for sticking with the protocol

I’m doing TSM but I’ve been having a hard time sticking to protocol. I went a couple times over the past few weekends where I drank without it and of course drank more than I would’ve liked. I just wanted the good feeling when I had my first couple drinks.

I know I need to just be strong and take nal one hour before I start drinking because I hate how drinking preoccupies my mind and I’m always wanting the next drink.

Just looking for any tips or advice that helps them stick with the protocol. No negativity please.

Zofran with naltrexone?

Planning to start nal on Friday using TSM. My doctor recommended 25mg but I’m even considering starting with 12.5 because I’m worried about the side effects. I get nauseous easily.

Anyone take zofran when they were first starting on nal? Did it help and how long did you need to use it before your side effects went away? Any advice on starting dose would be appreciated too.

Will taking nal eventually lead to extinction?

Struggled with AUD and substance abuse (weed) for my entire adult life. 36F. Been sober from weed almost 4 years but still struggling with AUD and planning to start TSM.

If compliant with nal, will it lead to complete extinction eventually? I’m totally down for that, just curious.

Not allowed on my flight

I was obviously drunk but not belligerent. Anyways, wasn’t allowed to check into my flight last night and got rescheduled to this morning. I have struggled with AUD my entire adult life (36F). Main DOC is was weed which I’ve been sober from for almost 4 years.

Anyways, I think I’m finally ready to try naltrexone / TSM. Anyone else recently started that? How’s your experience been?

Tips for cutting back on the weekends

I typically only drink on the weekends, usually Friday and Saturday because my husband embraces a very healthy lifestyle and I’ve struggled with substance abuse for most of my adult life. Currently about 4 years sober from weed.

I know the responsible thing would be to stop all together, but I’m curious how other people have successfully cut back to just a couple drinks on the weekends.

Vapid and boring

I love putting on a trashy, mindless reality show that I don’t need to pay 100% attention to, but I can’t get over how boring and vapid this cast is. Suffered through about 2 episodes before turning it off.
