seeking advice on how to manage coppicing weed trees

last year i got a tree service to come in and cut down the weed trees in my backyard, (mostly from my neighbour’s HUGE tree of heaven, pictures above) they cut them leaving about a foot of trunk and wrapped the trunk with some kind of landscape fabric (im assuming) to keep them from growing back and eventually kill them (i hope).

the few trees that i had managed to cut myself over the last several years are still coppicing so i thought id get some fabric and try to cover them myself… trouble is im not very good at googling so i can’t confirm if its just typical landscape fabric, or find any resources on if theres anything i should do before covering them or what best practices are.

any resources/suggestions appreciated. i am a total gardening newb and have a disability that makes mobility a challenge…. so i’m trying to minimise the amount of trial and error so that i can put my gardening energy where it will make the biggest difference.
