\[Mods this is was already treated!!! Not asking for advice, just wondering if someone had a similar experience\] A few hours ago, my bunny had a terrifying choking episode. I was screaming, calling my mom to get her to come at that very moment to rush him to the vet. The drool was everywhere, absolutely horrific.
Within probably a minute he stopped choking, I had attempted the bunny heimlich manuever and maybe it helped but I'm really not sure. Afterwards, I wiped the drool from his face and by the time my mom was there he was eating romaine like it was nothing, and chasing me around.
However, he made a really strange noise as he was following me. It's like a honking noise rather than a grunt, a lot higher pitched than how he usually sounds in his really deep rumbling grunts.
At the vet, he was perfectly fine, they said his lungs sound good and hes breathing fine - So everything looks good, we got some meloxicam (i think thats the name) to go home with.
But .. The change in sound. It's so peculiar. He isnt a super grunty bunny, but everytime he walks to me he makes this honking noises. He doesnt seem to be in any pain, but its abnormal and because the vet didn't have a definite answer, and I can't seem to find anyone else on the internet whos experienced this, I was hoping somebody else could help me here? I wonder if he damaged his vocal chords?
The vet said his throat could be sore, maybe. She just really wasnt sure. It really tends to be when hes walking. he's just never made a noise like this, and he consistently has been making it since the choking incident and since he's been home 7 hours later. Hoping somebody could give me some insight on this.
TLDR: my bunny honks all high pitched instead of his usual deep grumbly grunts after a choking episode, vet doesn't really have a definitive answer, wondering if someone else experienced this.
(Sorry I reuploaded it so I could watermark them just in case, as I'd be scared someone could scam with my images!!! I trust chiikawa reddit but I do not trust random internet scammers 🥺)
Did anybody else receive them this early?? I assume its to do with the US's recent issue with childrens toys, so maybe they sent out batches early to US customers? I'm unsure..
And yes these are the official ones ordered from the yz-store website. I would know, I stayed up late preordering them hehehehe
Just how adorable are they 🥺 These actually arent fully mine, I preordered for my friend who is a huge chiikawa fan. :) Temporarily mine..
Can I mention he's only 5.5 pounds and has never been more, so this isnt a 7.3 pound error 😂
[Please excuse how dirty the pants are, dug them out of the laundry for the photo lol] Handsome boy in question and the evil enemy pants in the second slide (that was his post facial bath wet-beard, excuse him)..
What a strange mystery this. For a long story, one day, my indian ringneck was making these awful screeches. The type I've only heard him make when he got his wing caught in his old cage when he belonged to my grandmother 7 years ago. Those noises horrify me, that screech of terror from him.
So, on one particular day maybe about last month, I wore these pants (i just use them as pajama pants), and when I'd interact with him, he'd do that awful scream. I was terrified, I thought he was somehow sick or injured in some sort of way. I even called my mother to ask about it, so scared for him. Yet, I realized that every time he'd scream like that, it was when I was nearby the cage. When he couldn't see my lower half, he was fine. I really was wondering if I traumatized him in some sort of way and he didnt trust me anymore.
I was super confused, not really sure if that was the proper answer and really had considered taking him to the vet, worried he was secretly injured and just alerting me of something, I don't know, maybe a blood feather. I really wasn't sure it was my pants..
Yesterday, I wore these pants again. They're not my fav to wear, so I don't often wear them. This time, he's at the top of his cage, he approaches me, talking to me and saying "how are you? How are you?" (yes hes extremely polite).
And then, he slides down the bars of his cage, takes one good look at my pants and makes that same awful scream again. I was appalled!! Its the pants!! its really the pants!!
Of course, I changed. its not like I'm going to torment him for testing purposes or something.
TLDR: Wasnt sure about it until yesterday, but my indian ringneck squawks and screams in an awful way he never has before except for when he got a little hurt when he stares at these pants.
So my question is: Is there a reason this happens? Is it the colors, is it biological? does anybody else have weirdo parrots that have specific objects they absolutely hate with a passion this strong?!
