Terminology I learned today

Stringere la Spada (Drawing Close to the Sword): Bringing the sword close to the opponent’s sword so that you can con constrain its movement.

Stringere la Vita (Drawing Close to the Body): Moving closer to the opponent to seek measure.

Previously I was taught that Stringere == Constrain, but now I think it's more more about the movement to get to a constraint than the constraint itself.

Strike according to the point that the enemy's sword will give: to attack such that the height of your attack is dictated by the initial height of the opponent's point.

For example, if their point is aimed at your face, you thrust at their face. If their point is aimed at your chest, you thrust at their face or chest.

This can be abbreviated as Strike according to the point.

How many of you are already employed in AI code remediation?

Over the last 6 months, I spent between 30 and 70% of my time just doing AI cleanup. By which I mean refactoring and redesigning code that other people have generated using AI in the past. This includes a mix of new pull requests and existing code from previous months.

This is not voluntary work. I was specifically assigned to do code remediation because it was reaching the point where no one could understand what the code was doing without AI assistance.

I am not including the time I spend cleaning up new code that I personally created using AI. The reason for the range is that my role varies from week to week.

The reason I ask is that Brent Ozar, someone I generally respect, is claiming that AI code remediation is not going to be a long-term career path. My personal experience tells me he's wrong, but I'm looking for a broader opinion.

Thrust, Lunge, and Extension are not the same thing

I'm getting rather frustrated with translators who mix these terms up. They are different words for a reason.

I've already complained about the translator of L'Ange calling everything a lunge when the original German says thrust.

Now I'm working through Fabris and I'm seeing the same thing. The translator even admits in the foot notes that extension would be a more literal translation. And that calling it a lunge could be misleading. And yet he does it anyway! Why? He claims that it's "more traditional". How is a traditional to mislead the reader?

So now I need to cross check every mention of lunge with a different translation to understand what the author intended.

Help, I'm chaperoning a high school dance and I don't know the ettiquite

In middle school we were told prod the kids in the butt with a pitchfork if they were just standing around and not dancing. Especially the shy ones who wouldn't ask anyone to join them on the floor.

Is that still appropriate for high school students?

How do you debone bananas?

Whenever we try to remove the bones we just make a mess of it. And we don't want to go back to naturally boneless bananas because they don't taste anywhere near as good.
