This is what I get for vegging out on the couch too long

I was binging LOTR movie analysis/trivia YouTube videos for over an hour and this is what happened. If I’d decided to watch the whole extended release trilogy in one go, I’d have a whole clutch!

Turnips thrive on neglect

This past winter I tossed out Turnip and Daikon Radish cover crop seeds in our acreage, so the grossly overpopulated deer would eat them instead of the native plants I was trying to establish. I really didn’t expect anything to survive this late in the year, especially with as heavy as the browsing pressure is.

This monster turnip was grown on cedar mulch from cedar clearing, over the thin limestone soil of the escarpment zone, and received zero supplemental watering, zero fertilizing, and zero pest control.

There is another one out there that seems to be bigger, but I left it in place. I have enough turnip for now

Edit: DH, ever the capitalist, is now brainstorming how to monetize turnips. Who tf buys turnips in Austin?

June bouquet with turkey poults

A mix of yard and pot cuts. We were fortunate enough to have had plumbing work done and disturbed ground at just the right time to put out a bunch of seed. Cosmos, Zinnia, bolted Cilantro, multiple types of Basil, and pre-started native perennials that are already flowering

Lookkit this booger-eater

I have three poults climbing all over my chest and the back of the couch. My teenage son was sitting next to me acquainting himself with the birds and being silly when I said “You have a booger in your nose” and I pointed to it. This cheeky poult followed my finger and picked his nose for him! He just about peed his pants when I told him it ate his booger. (Yes this really happened!)
