Shut out to my new neighbors, who just randomly brought me a bag of homegrown tomatoes without me asking once for them. ♥️
We were checking out Mr.B’s (Biedronka) Polish goods - wow, do they have quite an assortment priced cheaply - and we were graced with the presence of Valentino (the checkout person wasn’t 100% sure about the name) who immediately won over our daughter. It was her first time meeting a bodega cat. What other bodega cats are in the area? She kept saying “meow meow” for a while after heading back home, so clearly she’s a fan.
Moved back a week ago to the area, and while baking in the sun waiting for B62, I realized how devoid of trees is Manhattan Ave. Any plans in the works to change that?
If you ever felt like you needed a bit more of a heads up for the things that end up outside someone’s stoop/sidewalk, this group has a pretty robust Greenpoint base.
✨EDIT: Majority of stuff gone as of 16:22, on 8/8. It’s protected for the rain!

Any recs for plateware/dinnerware in GP? Especially whole sets. Our last ones were from Daiso, and they lasted a good while but wouldn’t mind a more durable upgrade. Thx in advance!
If you see Alec Baldwin strolling around post some pics. Or just gifs from 30 Rock, either is fine.

When our daughter was born, we took photos of her birth, and thus created her first digital footprint. It’s eerie to think about it, but her existence could be shared with the entire world within mere seconds of her birth. Within a few hrs, we laid out some common sense rules for our family members who either took photos of her, or received photos of her. Essentially don’t post on social media - or if you do, no face - and don’t share photos with non-family members. We quickly realized that wasn’t enough…
My father-in-law, in his mid-60’s, tech-savvy, decided to upload her photos into some AI models to create “fun” renderings. Turns out us not calling this out as a “not acceptable” in our book was enough for him to proceed. To say I was furious was an understatement. Luckily he understood he crossed a line, and never did it again.
Another thing that happened was that my parents shared photos with a non-tech savvy family member (late-80s) and suddenly I’m seeing photos and videos of our daughter on Facebook Stories. It was eerie and infuriating. Family member had no idea how she was doing it, yet it kept happening. This was a bitter pill to swallow because it was a clear violation of the rules we set. They wanted to be kind to an older relative but instead made her a risk to our daughter’s privacy. I started sending her physical prints of our daughter, so she wouldn’t feel completely cut off.
In short, protect your child, and establish some common digital privacy rules. You get to decide what’s right, but know that if you don’t set expectations, others will treat it as permission to do what they please with your child’s likeness. The future outcome is unknown.
EDIT: I should point out that I come from a Trust & Safety background in tech (in layman’s terms, protecting users from fraudsters & abuses online) and explicit content - especially AI-generated/modified - of all kinds is now extreme & extremely common. There’s simply no legislation in the US to get this under control atm.
Welp, that’s a first. Water backing up in the basement through the washer discharge pipe… Flash flooding is no joke. Caught super early before it got out of hand.
If you don’t have a super on premises, your basement might be a lake now. 🫠

Not to be a party pooper, but while NYC's tap water is indeed excellent (thank you Catskill + Delaware watesheds), the infra is less then subpar. We recently tested our water, and, traces of lead have been detected. If you're a renter, please be reminded that landlords are NOT responsible for ensuring your water is lead free, so if you don’t know what’s in your water, best to filter it / install a dedicated filtering system.
You can get a free lead test kit here: https://www.nyc.gov/site/dep/water/lead-in-drinking-water-test-kit.page
Sturdy metal clothing rack with two rails and shelves for storage. There's a visible crack on the edge (it's how it arrived) but it doesn't affect its durability. Asking $15.

Scoping out the route to our kid’s daycare (for some reason there’s a big cluster of daycares there), and I was pleasantly surprised how beautiful that part of GP is. Not to mention the appeal of Jubilee market [“cheaper than a subway swipe” burger slider? I’m game!]. It’ll be also nice to hop on the ferry with our kid.
If you haven’t had rose-filled pączek ($1.95) from Syrena you are missing out. Just sayin’.
Man, whenever I need to do some roof maintenance - or just ensure that nothing clogs the gutters so the 3rd floor apt doesn’t get wrecked with water damage {fun time$} - I’m reminder of what a spectacular skyline we have. It’d be awesome if creating rooftop terraces would become more common down the line. I’ve only seen one neighbor of ours take on this endeavor and it gets utilized a lot.
