Ross Stores Symbol=ROST how could I have trade it better

Afternoon everyone,

I was able to get into Ross a while back at 168, I missed the break out ( 163.60 ) but I saw how busy it always was, that I went in, Only to get stopped out 201 in March...d

https://preview.redd.it/9k0z8iilg6kh1.png?width=829&format=png&auto=webp&s=27fe57248c1aac86d827e90506b594d1111fbb25

My issue is, I follow a tough stop loss policy, but looking back on my entire portfolio, I get pushed/stopped out of trades consistently. Don't get me wrong, I like that it works but darn it, I wish I could get more of some of these moves.

CANSLIM makes me a fortune, I can factually say that it's been a steady 2% a month on the portfolio for almost 40 years and I have always beat the index by a solid big number. I haven't had a bad month is years. I get these types of 18% to 26% trades almost every week. BUT today I really have noticed that I am leaving extra money on these issues.

Is there anywhere a good discussion on using stop losses with canslim? this has been a thorn in my side for at least 18 years if not longer.

any help would be welcomed

SpaceX the trend is your friend.

the short term trend is downward.

We know that august 6th and 7th trading days, 915 million shares are free from the lock ( citation https://finance.yahoo.com/markets/stocks/articles/spacexs-lockup-expires-aug-6-080500494.html )

This to me looks like a great trade to do short term covered puts because, the people that hedged will most likely deliver the insider stock to the short. my perception is that's a flat to slight upward bias pressure.

The shorts know that not a lot of shorts 220 million shares. ( citation : https://www.barchart.com/story/news/3614044/surging-short-interest-in-spacex-stock-sends-strong-signal-to-wall-street )

When the delivery to the shorts ( hedges ) steams runs out, all you will have is inside selling. Look at the august 7th 110 puts and 105 puts for most liquidity. short term trade and reduced risk.

My trading style is all about capturing a profit, not trying to milk that profit to the end.

I hope this is helpful

ok, this one is tricky. Mexico - South Korea

There seems to be a general good feeling between Korean's and Mexican's that have developed during the world cup. How can I trade this possible benefit

  • Onsan (Ulsan) S-Oil refinery can handle high sulfur crude 200-550K barrels per day. Mexico is a large amount of higher sulfur crude
  • Korea imports a lot of Ag products and Mexico is a big processor and exporter of finished beef, I don't think they are a net exporter of maze products

Mexico already has a very positive relationship with Japan, so there is a likelihood of similar behavior.

where can I make a decent profit on this?

Here is Patrick Boyle giving a very well spoken breakdown of Spacex

I happen to know him personally, and speak to him yearly. With that said ( I enjoy giving a disclosure ), I feel that what he speaks about today and SpaceX, has presented a deep and possible fundamental signal that traders have forgotten. I like his normal type of communications. I hope it helps you.

https://youtu.be/wKXgeNwNRJ4?si=kxzQiYDLdgWqz3hD

That the video.

I would like to point out that I have mentioned that this IPO and the 2 others remind me of a historical time back in the days of Rail Roads and Steel. Lot's of money going into these IPO's sucking away liquidity. Obviously there should be enough money to go around, the question is " who's ". The historical moments I mention lead to minor stock market panics ( not crashes ) that lead to economic recessions.

Also, while I have not seen it on the currency market, the expected rate changes are not showing up. while there is an exchange in London, there is no Euro/Pound or Euro/USD or Pound/USD movements outside of the averages.

Some Opportunities are a scam in SpaceX

I am reading Forbes, and they are talking about buying stock on the secondary market https://fortune.com/2026/06/12/spacex-ipo-when-trading-starts-some-shareholders-will-discover-they-own-nothing-at-all/ .

This is all well and good, but it's ripe for people to commit robbery.

To prevent this from happening to you in the future, Please learn about how to escrow the transaction correctly, how assignment of in house securities are done, and even how DVP can be done with this ( delivery vs. payment ).

I've have has the opportunity to get in house stock before. I did everything with lawyers and escrow. You should too. Based on the daily fraud I see here in Miami, I won't be surprised of the discovered level was greater than 20 million by one or 2 people.

sharing some off the desk experience.

A long time ago in the late 70' s early 80's ,working summer time on wall street, or visiting my mother at her push paper job, I was always invited to sit around with other people, they were way up the social and economic rank than I ever thought I could be. But because I was a math and computer nerd, they always were asking me questions. and would take me to lunch or let me sit in on the " power meetings".

One of the lessons I was taught, which I think might be appropriate today, is a saying I heard a man say multiple times.

The irrationality of the market will always be exuberant to the end and will carry on more than ever expected. ( you can google irrational exuberance ). I asked many time what this meant. and the general meaning to people that were investing money was:

  • the trend is your friend until it is not.
  • when you can be the first, unload a little, if it keeps moving up, scale the sale into the buying.
  • you don't go broke taking a profit, just taxes.
  • if you don't understand why, scale back, that's your inner person talking.
  • Don't laugh at another person having a bad trading day, they might be on the opposite side of a trade and find a way to fuck you over. There was nothing sweeter than making a market for 100 shares and then jacking up the price on the other 900 shares ( 1/8 per 100 ) on the person that fucked you.
  • if you dream of a stock falling, that's your night time brain telling you to sell.

Most of those words are word for word on what they told me. A lot of it made me understand about mental health and trading, I am no where near as ruthless as a lot of traders are. Now understand these were older people and they were on trading desk shouting and laughing and doing there best. I recall a whole bunch of men running to their Quotron's in summer of 1982, or looking at the electronic board, one of the men grabbed me and said to my mom " he's going to witness something that will be a record", the market broke 100 million and everyone cheered.

You all have the chance to take more profits, there is no gatekeepers anymore, only older people like myself, there is nothing new under the sun, it's just wrapped up differently.

Good luck

trader workstation : moving average alerts problem

Using Trader Workstation, I might have discovered a small flaw.

  • using a crossover ema
  • 19 x 27 minute bars midpoint.
  • Where you end up getting arrows on a crossover.
  • I have notice that if I reset the screen, the up or down arrow might vanish.

my questions is, is there a way to refresh the box or layout every few minutes. I was comparing to another visual platforms, because I like visual feedback, and I discovered this on TW.

weird, but lucky for me, I run a live spread sheet as my checker to.

I like redundancy.

Mental Health and CANSLIM Trading / Investing and what to do when you see...

I mention in many of my post my mental health and the investing and trading that surrounds it. I laugh a lot at my lack of Diamond Hands which keeps me mentally healthy. someone once said you don't go broke taking a profit. CANSLIM gives me and my trading style lot's of opportunities to find profitable trades.

What do you do when you have a day like today ( 5/26/2026 ) with $MU opening up almost +$90. Laugh, that's all you do. For me, I made the right call, got stopped out at the right time, with my rules ( this reminds me of a John Deere trade from 2023-2024-ish).

You must fight the urge to dwell on this as a negative and reframe it as, I've taken the profit and wait for my next opportunity. Also, you can re-affirm to yourself that your rules are solid and the steps to long term portfolio growth are in place. This is when you get some self doubt and make decisions that are not part of your system.

using an outside idea to set up my stop losses within canslim

Hi everyone, I don't have diamond hands, what I do have is multiple portfolio's and systems applied to each portfolio.

Canslim is the only portfolio that I miss the long run, I get stopped out entirely of good profitable positions. It happens and that's part of the business of trading. But along comes this article ... https://medium.com/inside-the-trade/the-two-moving-averages-that-turned-100k-into-1m-606a79e99641

It talks about the 8 day ema and 21 day EMA as pullback points of resistance. It get's me thinking. after a certain amount of profit ( measured as percentages ) the initial trade entry stop loss is moved to zero profit lock ( usually the entry price ). From there I have my own hand crafted rules of trailing stops.

This system might be applied on only the highest of the highest rated CANSLIM stocks. this might be helpful for me to get nearer to those 3x-10x trades.

On other's it might be a variable moving stop loss. I know I will test this over multiple charts.

Feedback and please feel free to correct me, I'm not the smartest of the tribe.

Best of RHOBH series clips, what would be your top 2.

I was having a wine and deep conversation when we changed over to RHOBH, and I was asked, what clips would be your favorites.

Mine were automatically these because they live rent free...

  • $ 25,000 sun glasses
  • Suttons Leather pants meltdown

after that I said, these

  • Erika ready to rip out the throat of ( I think it was Mellencamp? )
  • Erika almost getting hit by the bike in germany
  • Sutton trying to talk dirty
  • wine glass as a weapon

leaving the rest for others to remind us the funny moments.

me and my lack of diamond hands LOL q

If there is one thing I've learned with CANSLIM, it's that opportunities are everywhere. I don't have great holding skills to the winner skills ( called diamond hands ), I have trailing stops that protect my profits and CANSLIM just about beats everything I've ever encountered in position trading.

Trust me ( or yourself ), I always try to learn how to hold on for one more day. Example, I got stopped out of MU yesterday at 752-753, 60-ish% return and where is it at today 800+ LOL. Talk about timing... another great video from IBD is out https://www.investors.com/ibd-videos/category/investing-podcast and it's about selling, yep I've watched it at least 3 times. most likely I'll watch it again 3 more times.

Hope it helps you and these videos have helped me.

off topic : 2026 Wealth report

I read it yearly, it gives me insights that might be useful for investing and catching a group/sector trend early

here is the link https://www.knightfrank.com/research/reports/wealthreport

hope it's helpful to you.

2 years ago I was able to capture the large to super Yacht trend because of the report. it was a validation for the sector as an investment.

off topic but a chart on bitcoin

I just looked at the bit coin chart today and there were multiple chart formation, take a look

https://preview.redd.it/v17kllgtd10h1.png?width=430&format=png&auto=webp&s=6bab8e54073afc12b2ffac76dc28484a156cf702

Starting off you have a double top, then you have a long formation of a cup with handle, then after that break out you have, the ending of a head and shoulders, still needs to be filled out.

it's just odd that I noticed it and just wanted to share it.
