Why do more mechanics not TRY to work contract while only getting taxed on minimum wage(or close to it)?

I’ve talked to older mechanics that have been offered $65+ while making per diem only getting taxed on min wage (or close to it)doing contract work and to me it just makes more sense to work with these rates because 1. Your tax bracket is lower, while taking home most of the $ you work for 2. You can buy your own health insurance and do personal finance with the extra $ you make and still be making more, and 3. You’re not stuck in one place if the place you work pans out.

Has it ever been a problem for anyone that is constantly changing jobs?

I’m a year into the industry and I started off contract, I didn’t like the 1hr-1.5hr drive at 2:30 in the morning and I had a lazy 26yo lead at the time, I move to business aviation and I’m 6mo in and they’re changing my schedule for the 3rd time and I already live in a high tax state. I’m looking at changing jobs, the only thing that’s somewhat binding me is I have a 1yr contract for a $3000 relocation bonus, otherwise I have to pay back a prorated amount. I feel like this would look bad on a job application, but i don’t really care too much for the MRO life and the bad hours, i want to see what else is out there without looking like i can’t hold a job.

Contract work and air b&b?

I made a mistake at work recently and now I’ve decided that since I’ve used the benefits I’ve wanted the most (dental). I might as well become a contractor again making hundreds more on a check. What staffing agency would you guys recommend? And have any of you just lived in air b&b for long periods of time? I have over a year of experience and I feel it’s best to just live my aviation life on the road hitting city to city, paying minimal taxes, and exploring the finer things in life.

How is weststar in Chattanooga vs. East Alton

First off I want to say I have a super helpful and great lead and I’m on a pretty laid back crew, but these taxes and living in a communist state are trash as fuck. I could make $4000 more on my income if I were to transfer(no income tax), but what departments should I steer clear from in chatt?

What would you do with $20k besides investing in etf/roth/etc? Business wise

I’m 27yo and 8 mo into my new career as an A&P tech making $36.30hr and I want to start a business one day soon, but I don’t know where to start. I have $20k in my checking account and all other money is invested between two brokerage accounts and a lil bit of crypto.

Do line MX really not do shit all day?

I’ve seen people complaining about only working for a few hours then bitching about sitting around the rest of the day while getting paid vs. people at MROs that do way more work for way less pay. Is this how line maintenance usually goes?

Tattoo shop with no experience?

How far out of reach would I be to buy a property and turn it into a tattoo studio, buy equipment and hire someone to do a 75/25 split to work in my shop if I have absolutely no tattoo skills of my own?

Was I wrong for this?

I made a post the other day about a tech 1 tryna cosplay the boss, but today I went off on his ass because we’re getting ready to jack a plane, I was standing next to the nose jack with my keycard next to it. I got the jacking bar in my hand clear as day indicating I’m finna get to work, this man kicks my shit out the way while asking “is this yours” then says and I quote “i hate to do it to ya, but I don’t feel like using the shitty jack(MLG)” then proceeds to want me hand him the bar to pump up the Jack. I let it be known right then and there he ain’t about to take advantage of me for being the new guy, and we’re not doing this shit. This lil fucker was left mouth open as if he couldn’t believe someone was talking to him like this and all he could do was smile, then got up and said “whatever you say boss💅🏻” I don’t have any problems working with ppl but tryna take advantage of new dudes in the hangar bc you don’t wanna do something, is a big fuck no unless you’re someone with some kind of seniority/leadership.

Selling and trading parts with 8130s?

How can I go about buying and selling parts with the correct form? Are there any specific websites with discounted parts? Do I need to contact the parts dept of part 134/145 shops? I’d appreciate if someone can give me a few pointers. I’d definitely like to sell hardware like clamps, screws, lock wire, sealant and avionics equipment.

How do yall deal with tech 1s tryna cosplay as shift leads?

I transferred to another department within my job and there’s some early 20yo that I originally thought had been at the job for a good while but really has only been there for a year after leaving Boeing. He’s given me some pointers that I’m happy to listen to, but this kid acts like QA always checking behind ppl and telling them his way of doing things, if he sees a new guy on the nose during jacking, he’ll tell em “get on the mains and I got the nose”. Or telling me not to use cloth on the edge of the fuel panels(that we have to wipe down and vacuum anyway) I remember walking into a hangar last week and hearing this kid talking abt me then quit talking once I made my presence known. I now make it a point where I just show up and do what my lead says needs done, but I just feel it’s so annoying having coworkers like this.

How hard is it to become a home inspector?

I’m a 27yo A&P mechanic and I just like doing spontaneous things, and the other night an idea came to my mind that I wouldn’t mind getting paid to look at homes for a fair price. I saw a couple books on Amazon and thought I should buy one after I’m done reading my real estate/finance books I just bought. How hard is it to become a home inspector and possibly doing it as a side hustle?

Whoever told me to buy a speed handle, I’d let you fuck my first cousin on my aunt’s bed.

I broke the bank on Amazon the other day and decided to spend the $40 and this mf is more handy than a kid holding the flashlight while you work.

What do yall recommend for taking installing/removing screws better without stripping them?

(Edit:More so for fuel panels) I currently have a milwaukee m12 fuel 1/2 drill driver (with the chuck, not a bit holder) and multiple screws on individual panels ended up getting stripped to the point I had to take a lot of time drilling out 4-5 screws per panel(I do keep my torque setting on 8, but usually don’t have a problem, but yesterday it was becoming an issue. Meanwhile my coworker with his M12 1/4 hex screwdriver is taking them off with ease. Should I buy a M12 1/4 hex screwdriver or spend the $ and get the M12 Fuel Installation Driver? I also want a lighter drill.

I was told by someone they would actually wear these at work? Opinions from my fellow MX.

First two are from images I actually took, then did some tweaking for graphic purposes. Would yall rock these at work?
