Vet negligence at Moitri vet clinic TW: pet death

Vet negligence

Trigger warning: death of a pet due to vet action

It’s taken me several months just to be able to talk about this traumatic experience.

The vets at Moitri killed my orange kitty Ghontu by giving him a paracetamol injection, a poison for cats

⚠️ PUBLIC SAFETY ANNOUNCEMENT: PROTECT YOUR CATS

A Warning to All Pet Owners in Kolkata
This is a warning regarding medical negligence that cost the life of a precious 7-month-old orange kitten named Ghontu.

🚨 The Fatal Incident at Moitri Veterinary Clinic
The Location: Moitri Veterinary Clinic (15B, Deshapriya Park Road, Kolkata - 700026)

BACKGROUND: On January 13, 2026, Ghontu was taken to the clinic for a loss of appetite. Dr. Amal Ray reg no 917 prescribed an injection of Melonex P (visible in attached prescription photo from dr. Amal Ray).

The Lethal Ingredient: The "P" in Melonex P stands for Plus and this includes Paracetamol (Acetaminophen) which is usually fatal to cats.

❌ Dangerous Professional Misinformation
When Ghontu's family questioned the clinic the following day (January 14, 2026), Dr. Saurav Banerjee, another vet at Moitri, defended the prescription and claimed that paracetamol was acceptable for use in cats. This contradicts fundamental global veterinary guidelines.

💔 The Tragic Outcome
Despite being rushed to The Seattle Veterinary Hospital (TSVH) late at night on January 15, 2026, where vets officially diagnosed "Paracetamol toxicity" and administered an antidote (as seen in attached prescription from
TSVH), it was too late. Ghontu suffered severe liver failure, endless seizures, and passed away in his owner's arms.

🐱 VITAL EDUCATION FOR CAT OWNERS

PARACETAMOL IS AN ABSOLUTE POISON TO CATS.

Unlike humans or dogs, cats lack the specific liver enzyme (glucuronyltransferase) required to break down paracetamol safely. Even a tiny fraction of a human pill or a single veterinary dose containing paracetamol causes irreversible damage:

  1. Destruction of Red Blood Cells: It changes hemoglobin into methemoglobin, preventing the blood from carrying oxygen.
  2. Acute Liver Failure: It rapidly destroys liver cells, leading to a painful, systemic shutdown.

📋 Always Double-Check Your Prescriptions
Before leaving any clinic, look closely at the medicine names. If you see a "P" attached to a drug name (like Melonex P, Megapen P, etc.), it almost always indicates the inclusion of Paracetamol/Acetaminophen. Never allow it to be given to a cat.

Kolkata pet lovers please avoid Moitri Vet clinic if you want your fur babies to live.

In Loving Memory of Ghontu

Please share this warning. Protect your pets, question every prescription, and look out for one another.
