Should we do another IUI or move to IVF?

Okay so my husband (33 FTM) and I (28 F) are trying to get pregnant with frozen donor sperm.

We’ve been established with a clinic and had 2 IUI’s with them. First unsuccessful, second successful that ended in miscarriage around 11 weeks. We are unsure of cause because they mishandled our tissue post D&C.

Our sperm had good parameters. BUT we had to switch sperm donors due to a clerical issue at the sperm bank, no issue with sperm itself. We have IUI vials and haven’t done anything with this new sperm yet as we’ve been waiting for my body to regulate post D&C.

If the next step is IVF, we are moving to a clinic that will take our insurance benefits. We feel good about this new doctor, but I’m terrified of IVF. We also aren’t exactly sure of when we could start with them. we are trying to get things squared away to start in my Nov cycle but it takes some time with insurance, prior auth, etc. They also are closed 2 weeks in Dec, so overall I’m worried about when we can actually start stims and hate having to keep delaying it.

In the meantime I was considering one more IUI with our old clinic. However, that would mean we do that in about 2 weeks when I ovulate which potentially could mean we couldn’t start IVF in November with the new clinic if they wanted me to start stims before day 1 of my Nov cycle. We also don’t know how good the parameters are of the new donor. I’m assuming good because they are IUI vials, but you never know post thaw. Finally, I’m terrified to miscarry again. I know this can happen with IVF too, but at least we would have been able to test the embryos.

SO! Should we just keep moving forward with IVF at the new clinic which we do really like, or try one more IUI with our old clinic before we move?

Sorry if this was confusing!! Anyone have any advice?

Patient question: Error before Cytogenetic Testing

Hi I’m unfamiliar with this sub but desperately need insight.

I had my D&C Tuesday for my miscarriage. We opted to send off the tissue for cytogenetic testing. I’m unsure of the exact test, but know we were looking for chromosomal analysis. We just consented to send it off to hopefully get answers of why this happened. I got a call from my OB yesterday who performed surgery that someone accidentally put it in the wrong solution (formalin) for a “short amount of time” (10ish minutes as per the pathology report) then washed it off before sending off for cytogenetic testing. She said they were “trying to be helpful” before realizing the mistake. The DR says she hopes it won’t affect the results, but that it might. I was in such shock when she called so I didn’t really ask questions, but I plan to call Monday. What do I even do/ask? I know mistakes happen but I’m so angry and feel robbed of answers after an already traumatic experience

Low and Slow HCG

Hi everyone.

I had my IUI June 1st. I believe I felt implantation cramps 9DPO, and got positive digital 12DPO. My line tests were pretty light but definitely positive, would get slightly darker but no where near as dark as others I have seen people get by that time.

Betas:
14DPO- 32
16DPO- 49
18DPO- 121

Obviously because of my very low starting beta and the fact that it didn’t double by the second, my dr pretty much told me to prepare for ectopic or early miscarriage/chemical. It more than doubled for the most recent one, which she said was good but likely will still not go on to be viable. I go back every two days for betas until we can see something on an ultrasound to see where it’s located. I’m most afraid of ectopic, but also so scared to just keep going until i miscarry.

I never expected to go from overjoyed to seeing a positive to absolutely terrified. I truly don’t know how to navigate this. Is anyone else in the same boat, or have you been before? Any success stories, or no?

I’m pregnant!

UPDATE: went in for my beta at 14DPO and it’s pretty low at 32. I feel so beyond anxious. I know what’s important is that it doubles, but it seems like everyone who had that low HCG at the start ends in chemical or ectopic. Ugh!!!! This mental game is too much. I go back for 2nd draw in a couple of days.

I literally am in shock as I type this. Our second IUI with frozen donor sperm was successful! Had procedure on 6/1.

I had crazy lighting bolt cramping across my uterus 9DPO, very different from the left sided progesterone cramps I had been feeling. It stopped me in my tracks.

Evening of 10DPO I felt nauseous but chopped it up to not eating much that day. Took a test morning of 11DPO and it was soooo faint like a real squinter. I wasn’t planning to test early so I was shocked but also scared it wasn’t real. Took a test this morning 12DPO and while it’s still faint it’s definitely darker and the digital clear blue said pregnant. Biggest symptom right now is nausea and safe foods tasting weird.

I didn’t do much different this cycle but I was way more relaxed as I think I put so much pressure on myself for the first one to work. I started Accupuncture right before my first IUI but for this one had obviously been doing it for longer. I also felt way better about the timing of this IUI. I swear the first time we had the procedure after I ovulated.

I’m in actual shock!! I lived so much of my life being told my doctors I’d never get pregnant because of my PCOS. Now of course I’m nervous to see everything progress as it should but trying to sit in the joy. Rooting for each and every one of you 🩵

IUI 6/1- in TWW

Hi hi! We just had our 2nd IUI on June 1st with donor sperm. Any IUI twins or people close to that date? How are you doing??

I ovulate on my own so didn’t take any medication as my dr didn’t want to increase chance of multiples. I had 17 mm follicle on CD10 and lining of 10mm. Triggered the next day then IUI 36 hours after trigger. I have a feeling we missed my ovulation last cycle as my follicle was over 20mm on cycle day 10 (though bloodwork didn’t show immediate ovulation) so overall feel better about timing this round. Started progesterone 6/3 and not looking forward to all the symptoms I get but trying to remain hopeful. It’s hard after being so excited and getting BFN’s.

11.2 million total motile sperm and 61.5% motility.

Sending baby dust to all of you!!

Mental Prep

Hi guys! I have IUI number 2 tomorrow. We are doing it due to needing donor sperm! I was so incredibly hopeful for the first cycle, and it really hurt when it failed. Logically I know all the things (it takes time, success rates, etc) but knowing the logic doesn’t do much for the emotional side of things on this journey. How do you balance being hopeful while also guarding your heart?

Progesterone Side Effects

Hi everyone! I had my first IUI on 5/4 and am currently in the TWW. I’ve been taking 200mg of progesterone via vaginal suppository for a few days now and am feeling all the symptoms. Lower abdominal cramping, mostly on my right side where I ovulated. I was randomly emotional and irritable one day, weirdly out of breath twice for no reason, and overall just feel exhausted.

Anyone else experience these, or other symptoms? How long did they last? Did you have a positive outcome on cycles you felt more progesterone symptoms, or is there really no correlation?

It’s so hard when your brain wants it to be implantation, but the progesterone is a trickster!

Baby dust to you all 💕

Hi everyone! My partner and I (27) are currently in our two week wait after our first IUI. We’ve known we were doing it around this time for about a year now so the anticipation has been building forever!

I have PCOS but completely regular cycles and ovulation after losing 80+ lbs in the last year. Other than that, no known fertility issues and this is our first cycle trying.

We had donor sperm with 25 mil total sperm, 13 mil motile, 51% motility and a 4 pattern post thaw and wash. Had an ultrasound on 5/1 and already had a 20 mm follicle and 10 mm lining, but my LH on bloodwork wasn’t high yet. I took my trigger shot on Saturday night (5/2) and had IUI Monday morning (5/4). No letrozole or clomid as I have regular cycles and ovulation.

Other things im doing include fertility acupuncture, warming my feet and uterus, and starting progesterone suppositories tomorrow night

I know I can’t really symptom track with the progesterone, and won’t be able to test until closer to 14DPO with the trigger shot in my system. I’m hopeful and cautiously optimistic. I know the first round doesn’t have super high success, but you never know!

All of this just to say hi and see if anyone else is in the same or similar boat. Waiting is so hard! What fun things are you doing in the TWW to help you get there?
