Maybe if trucks are so large they can't even fit into park spaces they shouldn't be street legal?
Didn't have commercial plates either. Less of a Portland problem and more of a "what is up American culture 🤦" it's so embarrassing

Can't even make eye contact or any kind of acknowledgment what-so-ever when your $60 entree is being dropped at your table? How passé!
Won't gtfo the way when you are clearly blocking the flow of traffic for staff literally just trying to do their jobs or other rich guests to enter / exit / use the bathoom and causing a literally fire code violation? So uncultured! You know what it trés chic and so en vogue these days? Spatial awareness, Please' and thank yous', leaving once you've paid your bill.
If common decency is going to motivate people to be well, decent, maybe pointing out how terribly unfashionable it is to be dickhead will.
I don't have any pictures of my bike, but I got a 51cm Soma Fogcutter (already built) on Facebook Marketplace for quite a steal and am psyched about it. Made a few changes, including switching to a shorter stem as the suggestion of my LBS, but wondering if it is too short? I do think I would at least like a lower pitch. Also unsure if the frame itself is just a bit too large for me (I'm 5'3")
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
Can I get a slightly jammy fried egg sandwich?? On decent bread? That's not $12!?!? Not fancy, but good. I've let go of my constant yearning for a BEC on a poppyseed Kaiser roll but I don't think it's too much to ask for a fried egg on anything other than an English muffin with a cardboard consistency.
(been in Maine 10 years, originally from CT, make fun of me all you want the only thing I miss are sandwiches)
Pardon in advance for the TMI but wondered if anyone else has experienced anything similar?
I ride a hybrid commuter to 7 miles round trip to work most days, and scored a very fun, cool, and well fitting steel road bike (Soma!) on Marketplace a few months ago I've been riding more on for adventures. I did get a professional fitting on this one.
Problem is, the last couple rides I have gone on my road bike, even if they are short I have been feeling what feel like period cramps but no blood. It's pretty lame because I just want to ride! Not sure if it's a saddle issue or and IUD issue or just my bodies response to a more aggressive riding position.
Any advice from fellow cycling enthusiasts and/or uterus havers? Ow.
Hi all,
On take two of a career change and wanted to hear feedback on what it is like working as an art teacher?
For a little background, I went to art school for undergrad and earned a BFA, worked in restaurants during that time. I didn't love art school tbh (was really struggling with depression and substance use at that time) so after college I kept working in restaurants and became a baker / pastry cook and worked my way up to a head chef position. Burned out hard on that a few years ago and have been working a pretty entry level job in the office of a hospitality company. The people and environment are good, I can work from home which is nice, but the pay and benefits truly suck. $21/hr, expensive yet still shitty health insurance, 5 days PTO all year including sick time. I work two other part time and / or seasonal jobs to supplement my income that I do enjoy but wouldn't work full time. I'm single, mid 30's, with a dog and live in a small city in northern New England.
There are some parts of my day job I enjoy but I would say I am very bored around 70% of the time. I thought this is what I wanted but I do really miss using my brain and being creative. I've never wanted to be a designer, and I have come to terms with the fact that I just don't have the skills or interest for 6-figure salary lol. Thinking about what I wanted out of life and a career, and being an art teacher seemed to check a lot of boxes.
-collaborative art making
-community oriented / positively impactful
-Monday through Friday schedule
-holidays off
-summers "off" (could use this time to rake it in at my side gigs)
-unionized workplace
-pension
Looking into going back to school for a Masters in Art Education, but wanted to hear perspectives from people actually in the field. Thanks!
**EDITED for a bit more clarity as to my motives or intentions. First of all, I can't dream of why anyone would want to get into education if one didn't enjoy working with children so it felt redundant to even mention! I don't have kids of my own, but following the birth of my niece and nephews I realized how much I like being around kids. I don't have much experience working with children besides a one semester/day-a-week program I did at a Baltimore public school (a long time ago). I did work in social services for one year addressing food security, although most of our clients were unhoused adults. Ideally I think working in a high school would be cool.
I guess by "paid holidays and vacations" I meant more so salaried for that time. In the state I live in, all full-time public teachers are salaried with the option for their pay to be paid out just over the school year or over the course of the calendar year. Of course that also means no overtime during the school year.
I am sure there is more to being an art teacher than making art, so I appreciate your insight! Trust me, when I hear people say that being a chef must be so fun because they love to cook, my eyes couldn't roll further into my head.
Holy shit the intros sound so similar to me?? Like same piano melody just minus the strings in "Another Life". Not to mention the themes of the songs are very similar. (Full disclosure I am simply a music enthusiast and do not know the technical terms for anything)
Not comparing or pitting one artist against another, longtime big fan of both SZA and Lucius, and both of these songs break my heart all over again but are so beautiful.
No I did not call my ex lol
35F, 5'3", 165lbs, recently quit (light) smoking
Was taking my daily medication (Prozac and Wellbutrin) right before leaving for work and didn't chase it down with enough water I guess and aspirated some of my medication for sure. Threw up moments later (at least one capsule came out) followed by difficulty speaking and breathing so I drove myself to urgent care down the road with a bucket in my lap.
Started to feel better while waiting at Urgent Care (drinking lots of water helped) and was already running late for work so I left before meeting with a doctor.
This happened on a Friday, it is now Monday. I can talk and breathe normally, but my throat is still a tiny itchy, still have a bit of a cough a my chest feels sore when I breathe in deeply. Very annoyed because all I want to do is swim and cycle but feel like I should take it easy until I feel better.
Should I go back to urgent care and get antibiotics though? Or will this resolve on its own?
It seems to just confuse drivers and pedestrians even more? Drivers still stop when it's green and pedestrians still walk when it's red. And it just congests traffic more. Makes no sense to me.
A 5 minute delay and a gorgeous view
Be super careful coming down York off the bridge and crossing over High Street. They put these out these metal plates down in the part of the road that *isnt't* blocked off.
Not sure if my tires caught an edge or slid on the slippery surface, likely both, both I absolutely biffed it coming into town and would've been toast if I wasn't wearing a helmet. Thank you to the two kind ladies who got out of there cars to check on me. Going to ice my ass/thigh for the rest of the day lol.
OUT: getting hit by a car
IN: getting jumped by a mother goose
Idk what else to do but go real slow and say sorrysorrysorry
Our 72yo father has been involuntarily hospitalized, once again, due to a manic episode (which he fully denies). According to him he is taking all of his medications but still sounds delusional, grandiose, and frankly quite angry. Prior to being in the hospital, he was arrested for disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace after he smashed a plate on a table at a restaurant and got into a fight with the manager.
This is the third time in recent years that he has been jailed / hospitalized for his behavior. He got remarried two years ago to his partner of 10 years, but he is now seemingly turning on her and blaming / gaslighting her for his "incarceration". Follow up tests have been done to make sure there are not other cognitive ailments co-occurring.
Obviously no one chooses to have this disease, and despite this he had a pretty successful career and could've have a really nice life. Out relationship is strained, due to the fact that he is also a textbook narcissist and has been emotionally neglectful / abusive to us since childhood, even at his best.
His mania brings out the worst in him, i.e. makes sexually inappropriate comments to his own children, is more openly bigoted, drives erratically and generally unsafe and unpleasant to be around. it is incredibly disturbing and re-traumizing after growing up with a chaotic (albeit, very economically privileged) childhood.
What do we do know? He is absolutely imploding his life, and my siblings and I all live out of state and are trying to build our own happy, healthy, independent lives.
Hi all, my siblings and I live out of state and are trying to get our aging parent more longterm care for severe mental illness.
Wondering if anyone here has any recommendations on treatment centers in the Stamford area whether that is inpatient or outpatient. Thanks
Can you get the fuck out of the way when you are "making content" in the middle of a busy service?

Extra credit: who (if anyone) should use a turn signal?
Asking for myself, as a bike commuter who nearly got hit by a van (not the one in those Google Maps photo) who IMO cut me off, but am I wrong? There could be a counter complaint from a driver about being cussed out by a cyclist.
Hi all,
Looking for recommendations on comfortable road cycling apparel for a thicc-er gal. I commute to work regularly but just got my first road bike (a gently used Soma Fogcutter! very stoked) and want to go one longer rides (like 20 miles plus). Looking for apparel that is comfortable but not trying to look like a pro athlete 'cause that's just be embarrassing considering my skill / fitness level lol.
I got one padded bib on sale from Pearl Izumi, but even the large was quite tight ☹️. Got sober 3.5 years ago and gained about 40lbs since then, so def struggling with a bit of insecurity in fitness spaces (I'm also a soft masc lesbian so looking like the Venus of Willdendorf feels gender bendy in a dysmorphic way) so trying to find clothes that feel good on my body and in my head, ya know?
Would love recommendations? Thanks
