Is this muscle guarding or something else?

Dx last year after a lifetime of unacknowledged symptoms (which now totally make sense, of course). Also have fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, greater trochanteric pain syndrome, old coccyx fracture, disc bulges, Tarlov cysts...basically, if it's in my body, it hurts, you know.

This is my second incident this year where i've exercised and a movement (squat and/or lunge) has caused a flare involving what seems like the whole kinetic chain going to pot. The most distressing symptom is the sudden and startling feeling of my calf (gastrocnemius) gripping like it's about to go into full spasm, causing me to gasp and immediately stop moving. At its worst, walking feels very unstable and I cannot go more than a few steps without alternatively locking up in my calves, hamstrings and/or glutes. The last experience went for just over two months before it eventually resolved. I'm two weeks into this one and it's much worse.

I suspect there's some nerve compression involved as well as i've started feeling random surges of telltale burning throughout my legs, but i'm not confident whether it's the cause or another symptom.

I'm getting a lumbosacral CT and ultrasound on my left hip done tomorrow. I've also been wearing compression shorts, tighter/taller socks and combat boots, which has felt more anchoring - I could walk more yesterday, but in a twist, static standing was more painful. I'm currently using a shower stool as standing under hot water makes my legs hurt and feel unstable. I also bought a U-shaped body pillow but it's hard to give a verdict after only one night as my body is aching this morning. I was seeing a physio specialising in HSD to help with dead butt and recurring injury from doing pilates, and they helped a lot with proper form and tools to improve proprioception, but I can't go back to see them at the moment as I can't get up the stairs to their office.

I've booked to see my GP next week to discuss all this. But I don't know whether this is a hypermobility muscle guarding thing, amplified by borked pain perception, or if there's something else neurological or mechanical going on.

Is any of this making sense to anyone else living with HSD?

Foo Fighters' latest post on their socials: "GOOD TIMES IN THE HEART OF IT ALL: OHIO!!!"

This is well-timed when i'd only just been remembering the relative candour and fun of the behind-the-scenes stuff at the very start of the YFT cycle. It felt like pre-Wasting Light promo again, when they were just having fun with being on the internet.

Road Case Stories with Foo Fighters' FOH Engineer Bryan Worthen

I've yet to watch the whole thing but the caption shows he talks about having a private video feed on Taylor so he could mix his vocals

Rediscovered in pictures folder, no further context

Regard Taylor's loafers, or so called in a niche FF meme, his bread shoes
