beaten up grails

beaten up grails

I’m usually the type to keep my boots and shoes looking as pristine as possible, but I don’t regret beating these up one bit. this is your sign to wear your shit!

the old and the new

i’ve had this pair of 'vintage' pascal 1460s for over two and a half years now. gotta admit i started off lowkey babying them, but i literally scuffed them on the first day lmao… so pretty quickly i decided to just wear them as beaters. i’ve worn them while traveling, to concerts, on dates, pretty much everywhere. so they’ve definitely been my most worn pair of shoes during that time.
i’ve also tweaked them a bit over the years. i removed the glued-in insole and padding and replaced it with a 3/4 length dr. scholl’s insole, which gave me a little more room in the toe box and made them more comfortable. more recently, i blackened the yellow stitching and copper eyelets to make them as versatile as possible.

i’d only had them for about two months when i came across the exact same pair for a steal, so i had to double up. but honestly though, i can’t see myself retiring this pair anytime soon. i’ve been really impressed with the quality since i haven’t had a single issue with them. still, i’m glad i grabbed the second pair because whenever the day finally comes, i know i’ve got another one waiting.

for all the criticism docs get these days, these have been absolute tanks for me. so i can’t recommend them enough.

Discussion: Black Loafers

For most of my life, I’ve been a boot guy. Lately though, I’ve started appreciating loafers more, especially during the warmer months. Over the years I’ve picked up a few pairs, and right now I own a pair of Prada Chocolate loafers and Gucci Quentin Horsebit loafers, both in black. The problem is that sometimes I feel neither the chunky silhouette nor the horsebit hardware is quite as versatile as I’d like.

A while back I started seeing the Saint Laurent and The Row loafers all over my feed, and I really liked the silhouette. I tried the Saint Laurent pair at a local boutique, but honestly I wasn’t blown away in person, and the price felt a bit steep for the quality. As for The Row, I don’t have any way to try them on in my country, and spending that much money blindly doesn’t seem like a great idea either. So I ended up ordering this pair from Scarosso.

Funny enough, I thought I was buying the "Fred" loafer, but it turns out the Farfetch listing was wrong and this is actually the "Mar" women's loafer. After comparing photos online, I think the men's version is a bit too round for my taste, and I actually prefer the sleeker silhouette of the women's pair, which reminds me more of The Row. That said, when I first unboxed them, I did feel they were maybe a little too pointy.

I got them in a size 42, which is my usual size for European leather shoes, and they fit perfectly lengthwise. They're just a little narrow in the toe box, but I'm sure they'll break in nicely since I have fairly narrow feet anyway. Still, I'm a bit hesitant about whether this is actually the simple, super-versatile black loafer I've been looking for.

Maybe it's just me, but The Row pair feels like the perfect balance between sleek and not overly round. Unfortunately, there's no way I'm spending $1,350 on a pair I can't even try on first, and they're sold out pretty much everywhere anyway. I even ordered a pair of the Atorie dupes that keep showing up on my feed, but after a week the order still says "processing," so I'm not very confident those are ever arriving. I'll probably just file for a refund.

I've also tried some Alden and C&J loafers, and out of those, the Harvard is probably my favorite. Not in black, though. If I got a pair, it'd definitely be brown.

So what's your perfect black loafer? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Toffee Nut Dunkalatte at home?

So, long story short: almost 2 years ago I visited Boston and tried the Toffee Nut Dunkalatte, and it might've been the creamiest, tastiest, sweet iced latte I've ever had. I basically became addicted, but I only got to have it a couple more times during the trip.

Last year, they released it as a winter seasonal flavor in my country, but sadly it didn't taste the same. I feel like the Dunkin' coffee here is wayyy stronger, and even when I asked for only one espresso shot instead of two, it was better but still didn't quite hit the spot.

I've been low-key craving it ever since, so does anyone have recommendations for making something similar at home? Any syrup brands or recipes that come close to Dunkin's toffee nut flavor? Thanks!

I’m turning myself in…

This might be my final bag for a while, I’m voluntarily going straight to bag jail.

This year I went from having 0 Coach bags to 8. They’re all retail bags, even though I got basically all of them under MSRP. Every bag I’d gotten until this one was made from natural full-grain leather, but I really wanted a glovetanned one too. So even though I’d already passed on getting this multiple times, when I saw it for $250 I had to pull the trigger.

I think the Brooklyn 39 is the bag I needed to complete the lineup. I can say I’m really happy with all the variety I’ve gotten throughout these months :)

And even though this might read unnecessarily dramatic, and this definitely won’t be my last post here, I’d also like to thank this group for all the interactions, feedback, and insights I’ve gotten during my Coach spree. I’ve been in a lot of different fashion-related forums and communities online throughout the years, and this is definitely one of the most wholesome and positive ones.

See you all after my sentence is over!

P.S.: It definitely doesn’t fit a 16" MacBook Pro horizontally, I’ll have to carry it vertically with the top sticking out. Oh well…

Honeycomb Score!

a few days ago i posted about randomly finding the dakota in honeycomb and denim at a boutique while i was traveling. the second i saw them in person i just knew i needed one, but i was completely torn on which to get.

deep down i think i liked the honeycomb one more from the start, but i kept thinking the denim would probably be more versatile. regardless, the general consensus here was very much “GET THE HONEYCOMB” lol so eventually I decided to go for it even though i was a little hesitant about it as a dude.

the actual problem was that i was flying back home that same day, and i knew if i went back to the store i’d probably end up late for my flight. but i seriously could not stop thinking about it and that morning, while googling more photos of them, i noticed that one of the two department stores that carry Coach in my country had ONE left in stock.

what made it even riskier is that i had previously ordered the black dakota from them while also showing “1 left in stock” and they ended up canceling my order… but then i also noticed the honeycomb randomly qualified for a 10% off coupon. coach is a bit more expensive here because of import taxes and everything, but with that discount it basically came out to retail price, so i decided to risk it. figured if they canceled it again then maybe it just wasn’t meant to be.

and after a couple days of stressing, yesterday i finally got the notification that it was ready for store pickup and today i finally went to get it!!

for some reason now that i have it at home it feels considerably bigger than it did in the boutique, which i actually like. and the leather… wow! it’s incredible and i’m genuinely obsessed with this color. definitely made the right decision and i’m so happy i ended up getting it. thank you to everyone who enabled me to go after this one!

i’m torn!

so yesterday I was walking through a mall when i passed by a coach store and caught something yellow out of the corner of my eye that made me do a double take and there it was… the honeycomb dakota. i’ve seen people in this group say it’s sold out everywhere, so i had to go inside to take a closer look and damn, that was a mistake because they also had the denim dakota and now i can’t stop thinking about which one i should pick up.

any owners of these can either influence or de-influence me?

i know the denim one might be more versatile, but it’s just cotton and more expensive. on the other hand, the honeycomb color is gorgeous and leather, but maybe not as versatile. so idk what i should do, help pls!

I previously posted about the Plaza strap being too short, and ending up turning it into a wristlet. I’ve taken it out already and honestly it wasn’t as inconvenient as I expected, but I still needed something so I could carry more casually without thinking about it.

So I picked up a brown full grain leather strap, sourced a couple of Coach dog leash hooks, and put it together. It only took a couple of hours, and I’m really pleased with how it’s coming along. I just need to finish the raw edges, but I’m waiting on Amazon to deliver some Tokonole since I ran out.

Still not 100% done, but I’m pretty happy with how it turned out!
