This Is What I'm Supposed To Be Doing

My [27M] wife [26F] gave birth to our first child back in early June; a son. I've been on paternity leave since then and it's been the best ~2.5 months of my life bar none.

I grew up one of the older kids in a big family helping out with little siblings so I never doubted I'd have the technical ability to take care of a kid, but the entire pregnancy I got more and more anxious about if it was what I actually wanted or if I was just following in my parents' footsteps. Turns out it is exactly what I wanted.

I love taking care of my son. I love feeding him bottles and changing his diapers and giving him baths and staying up all night with him so my wife can get good sleep. I love the new dimension it's added to the relationship my wife and I have. We were already in a rock solid marriage, but I think it's just opened up new ways to support each other and show our love, as well as reveal new aspects of each other to appreciate.

I love that there's this little guy who lights up when I walk in the room and giggles when I kiss his hand. I love seeing how curious he is and how hungry he is to understand and participate in the world around him. I cannot wait to introduce him to all the aspects of life my wife and I love and help him understand who he is, where he comes from and where he's going.

I don't want to act like it's easy (not that you guys would believe me if I did), because it's definitely not. It's been a ton of hard work, especially since he was born almost 2 months premature and the early going was extremely stressful. But the upsides of fatherhood have totally surpassed my expectations; it feels like what I'm supposed to be doing, which is a huge relief for a guy who's never felt a ton of professional satisfaction from any of the jobs I've worked for money.

I've only got a week left on paternity leave and it makes me want to cry. I'm going to cherish these months for the rest of my life but it sucks that I have to do anything besides taking care of him and being there for my wife. If any generous millionaires or universities studying the family want to bankroll my wife and I being stay at home parents please DM.

AMA About Living Car Free in Buffalo

My wife [26F] and I [27M] got rid of the car when we moved to South Buffalo about three years ago. It was a big decision that we feel has improved our quality of life by quite a bit. We've known a lot of people within Buffalo and without who are dismayed to hear this and don't really understand why we would want to or what a car-free life looks like in practice.

I'm just sitting around taking care of our newborn, so I've got time to answer any questions people might have about our motivations or lifestyle.

Expectations vs Reality Decks

What is a deck that everybody claims is really good, *IS* really good every time you play against it, but has never worked the same for you?

For me it's Jolteon EX decks. Every time I queue in against a lightning type deck with Eevee in the active spot they get Jolteon their first turn and make setting up energy impossible. I'll have all the draw support in the world but never manage to find Jolteon until my opponent already has 7 energy out with full evolutions.

Edit - typo

Underrated Diabolical Combo

Pulled a couple full art Glameows in the hunt for a Cyrus so I decided to try to make a Purugly deck. Everything I've done is kind of brickish but I've gotten addicted to the high of Red Card -> Silver -> Interrupt. Takes a lot to set up but it pretty much fully stops your opponent from drawing cards.

I've included my current deck list if anybody has any ideas about making it more consistent or wants to try it out.

Zoroark EX to MB w/ 65% Win Rate

Usually for ranked I change up my deck every 5-7 matches. I always make it to masterball but I've felt like the constant shuffling was leading to a lack of familiarity with any single deck, which would lead to misplays and unnecessary losses. So this season I made one deck list, practiced a ton with it before ranked came out and stuck with it until masterball.

Definitely felt a lot easier than previous seasons. Most of my losses were to Sceptile decks, but I was more competitive with grass than I expected. Zoroark being able to hit for 90 on turn 3 with the right pulls is just so good. And it feels like people have forgotten that Darkrai EX has a ping ability. Highly recommend the list if you're struggling at all in ultraball.

Terapagos Appreciation

Terapagos is my favorite new EX in a while. Been having so much fun with this deck. Grafaiai from Paldean Wonders synergizes really well as an Oricorio counter. When I first set this up it seemed really clunky but the wins I'm able to pull of with it are crazy. Excited to see how it does in ranked; early results in competitive random are pretty good.

Most Over-Hyped Card in Pulsing Aura?

When the trailer for Pulsing Aura came out it felt like everybody thought this card was going to shake things up. I haven't played against a single deck using it and I haven't found any combos with it that felt good. Has anybody been able to find success with it?
