I appreciate Arcade1Up for their impact on the home community and wish Basic Fun good luck with their product line, but I won’t be looking back.

Check out this sun bleached Simpsons on marketplace

It’s dirt cheap but that was the best flair I could find that was fitting lol (it’s $100, good deal for someone with spare joysticks who doesn’t mind the look). Personally I think the faded art is funny and makes it look more original.

QA Sample

Hi all, I made a post a few weeks ago when I brought home my Tempest cocktail table. I understand it’s a rather uncommon cabinet and only about 1600-1700 of them were ever made, and I imagine most of them were trashed by the operators after use as I’ve never seen a conversion kit in one. I also understand Atari serial numbers never started at 1, meaning my serial number of 458 must have been pretty low, but I now think it’s a much earlier unit than I had anticipated. I took a peak inside the monitor service door and noticed something I hadn’t before, this is a QA sample! I’d imagine that puts this firmly in the first one or two batches to ever come off the assembly line and I think that’s really cool. Maybe the 44 below the writing means this was the actual 44th unit? Or maybe it was an employee ID or some other information. Does anybody else have any low serial number games or maybe an engineering/QA sample or prototype in their collection?

Tempest cocktail table update!

I made a post a few days ago (maybe over a week ago at this point) asking what a fair price was to buy this cabinet. The total cost ended up being $1250. I checked the inside of the cabinet prior to the sale and it’s all original inside, I think whatever weird things people saw on the monitor in my last post were just photo artifacts or compression. Anyway it’s a heavy mamma and took 4 people to get it downstairs but here’s its first initiation beer and pizza!

Good buying price for Tempest cocktail?

Cap kit / maintenance condition is unknown, based on the listing description it doesn’t sound like the guy knows much about it but it’s currently running and I’m pretty good shape.

1995 Ody picks up an arcade machine

For the second time, but this was a bigger cabinet and a more impressive fit. Old photo but I only just discovered this sub lol.

Question about 48-in-1 PCB

I was given this for free. I don’t have a cabinet to install it in right now nor do I have a cabinet that’s even suitable for testing purposes. My question is, to anyone who owns one or has used one, does it support cocktail screen flipping?

Free project cab

What you see is what you get. Has 16:9 LCD with HDMI and other inputs. Free to the first person who can get it out off my property, it’s taking up space. Located south of Boston MA. DM for address/make plans.

Bucket list game acquired

Incredible home use only game with very little wear. Other than some (minor) maze burn-in the screen looks fantastic. Artwork on the cabinet is in phenomenal shape for its age and the CPO doesn’t have a scratch on it. Other than the marquee light, it currently doesn’t need any work. Got it in a trade for a game I didn’t even pay that much for, I made out like a bandit methinks. It was just 4 hours away so I paid with my time… and gas lol

What’s the consensus on Soul Edge?

Bought a $50 HS-5 a few weeks ago with a bad monitor. Finally got it up and running today and was able to play Soul Edge, a game I had never heard of until buying the cabinet. Bought the cabinet to put a CPS2 into it. Whenever I get around to that I’ll put the Soul Edge PCBs and stuff up for sale but until then, my first impression of the game is… it kinda sucks. The music is lame, controls feel clunky, and the narrator sounds like he consumed an entire bottle of melatonin before recording his lines. I like the graphics though. I know nothing about this game other than it’s part of the Soul Calibur series which I also know nothing about. Just curious what other people think of the game, is it a good game and I’m just uncultured, or is it not well remembered?

Can anyone ID this cabinet?

Was this originally a dedicated game or was this just a generic cabinet to throw a kit into - and if so does anyone know the make or model?

How rare is the Pac Man Plus cabaret? Either the original or the rerelease.

I never thought I'd buy another 1Up after switching to collecting authentic cabinets, but I was given an old 48-in-1 jamma board and I think putting it in this cabinet would be sleek. I don't want to destroy an actual arcade cabinet for a multicade board. I remember drooling over this cabinet when it released but I already owned a Pac 1Up and didn't want to replace it. Valid fix or waste of time?

Picked up a cabinet with a K7000 monitor in it, flyback is arcing like there’s no tomorrow. My friend and I were discussing the issue and I want to just buy a replacement flyback, but my friend told me to buy whatever this is that I’ve never heard of before. He said this is what (probably lazy) techs would have done back in the day and that it would be a better fix than any reproduction flyback you can buy from China. Any input appreciated!

Finally got my hands on a wishlist game!

Vampire Savior came with both the CPS2 A and B boards, recently serviced (I presume new battery but haven’t checked yet) for a really good price. I already have an A board for my SFA3 so I consider this one a spare - although I’d love to give each game its own cabinet in the future rather than both sharing this Street Fighter. I’d like to thank Capcom Arcade Stadium 2 on Switch for introducing me to both of these games as I’ve never seen either of them on location near me and I love both of them.

Need small joysticks

I've seen a few people convert video poker machines into arcade cabinets and I plan on doing this with a cabinet I picked up for free off the side of the road. This is going to be a PC based system running MAME. I plan to have the control panel have 2 joysticks with 2 buttons each for simple multiplayer games. Problem is, the control panel is a little narrow. Are there any small or compact joysticks I can buy that would work? Anything like the Nintendo PC10 bar top maybe?

From trash to treasure: here’s the Arkanoid I saved

I’m no professional at woodworking but I had to do what I had to do! Paid $250 for the cabinet with the spinner, PCB, and working monitor (in desperate need of a cap kit when first acquired). I had planned to gut it and convert a generic poker game into an Arkanoid and keep the monitor as a spare, but a friend convinced me to try something out of my comfort zone and restore the cabinet. We cut the bottom sides off and fastened some new ones on - the inner bottom was in okay shape so I suspect the damage was the result of a mop coming around it for years on end rather than a flood but I’m not sure. I applied 3 layers of bondo and paint and from a distance - much less a dark arcade - you can’t even tell. I already had the wood and bondo, I bought a power sander for $75, cap kit for $30, T-molding for about $25 and blank buttons to replace the unused ones for $10 putting my grand total at about $390 for the whole project. It’s not perfect but few of the games in my collection are - hey they’re all functional anyways! I always thought Arkanoid was a lazy copy of Breakout until I fell in love with it at my local barcade and now I’m super excited to own one - hopefully I can get good at it without the overpriced cocktails in me! Oh, I forgot to mention the coin meter was shorting out the PCB seemingly at random so I just removed it, anybody know why that happens?
