Clodagh Ring Given to my Grandmother some time between 1960 and 2000.

The ring has been lost since this photo was taken, but I remember looking up the maker’s mark and seeing that it was made by a jeweller that still exists here in Ireland.

The ring appeared to be sterling silver with a gold accent, shown in the photo here.

Work-Life Balance: Is there such a thing as too much “life”?

I’ve managed to land myself an extraordinarily flexible 4-day a week IT management job, and have earned an enormous amount of trust from the organisation over the past decade. I’ve become something of a repository of global systems knowledge, so I have all-but guaranteed job security.

With a one-month-old at home, that feels invaluable.

The issue is that I make roughly half what I could make elsewhere, and I’m quite limited in what technology I actually get to work with. I worry that I’m mortgaging my longterm career and earning prospects to rest on my laurels now, but I don’t know how much of that is justified.

If it’s affordable, is this kind of step back from careerism worth it?

What Happened to Belinda Starling after Mary Katharine Goddard died?

Mary Katharine Goddard (printer, postmaster, and bookseller) left her entire estate to her 26-year-old slave, Belinda Starling, and freed her as part of her will.

Does any historical record of Belinda’s later life exist?

The year is 1961. The NFVP holds an outright majority in every state, GDP is growing at 11.5% per year, 82 year old Dietrich has held the Premiership for almost three decades.

And yet, the NFVP insists upon coalition governance in Prussia.

(I’m increasingly tempted to start finishing pieces of this mod; so much potential!)

Builders moved my young tree; anything more I can do for it?

Our building team determined that this young fig had to be moved, so they replanted it with a back-hoe.

I’ve pruned a few branches, excavated the trunk a bit as they planted it too deep, and removed about 20 figs. Is there anything else I should be doing to help it get through this?

Pictured are the tree, the base of the trunk, and the roots that were left behind. Also pictured is Freya, who is thoroughly confused.
