I adopted a lab mix of some kind yesterday!

My partner and I adopted a one year old lab mix yesterday after losing our 9.5 year old black lab to cancer. A rainbow followed us all the way home 😭 It’s incredible the difference in his confidence level and trust with us after less than 24 hours! He slept beautifully in his crate, no accidents and let us give him a bath. Now we’re just working on his confidence with the stairs. He’s a gem!

I will miss you so much, Ender.

He went to the ER vet for increased respiratory effort. After diagnostics, it was determined he has an aggressive form of cancer with a prognosis of only one week. Since he was having difficulty breathing without oxygen, we decided to let him go peacefully.

He’s been my best friend for 9 years after adopting him at 6 months old. I’ve never experienced pet loss like this. I know we did the right thing, it’s just so sudden.

Ender, I love you.

A bear joined us during our lakeside lunch

Owyhigh Lakes! We walked right by it apparently and had no idea. Wholly unbothered by us.

Question about ex-employer removing funds from Class B Stock Fund to 401k Savings Plan?

Extra info at the bottom!

My ex-employer is GEICO. I left after 11 years, fully vested. 35 years old. One year they put our profit sharing into the Berkshire Hathaway Class B Stock Fund instead of our 401k Savings Plan. That was maybe 5 years ago, 6? Now I am getting letters in the mail that they plan to close that stock fund from my plan and the letter reads as if I don't have a choice in the money being removed from the BH fund and put into the other savings plan.

I'm fairly financially illiterate, I just mostly pretend the money isn't there and plan to start depositing funds in there again soon (I'm a state employee now so have a seperate pension fund, I'm sure I'll have questions about that later, I digress).

My question is, what is ACTUALLY happening to that money? Is it the best financial move for this to happen? The previous letters indicated that it is considered volatile to have so much in this one fund which I understand, I'm just not sure what is the best move here, other than just letting the funds be moved over and move on.

If someone could break it down in an ELI5 that would be great! I appreciate any insight or knowledge, just want to make sure this is ultimately in my best interest as the letter implies.

Vanguard Retirement Trust: $94,114.92, balance mix: 83.03%

Berkshire Hathaway Class B Stock: $19,229.88, 39 shares, balance mix: 16.97%

Total: $113,344.80

Looking for an update on a heron picked up by a rehabber yesterday.

we were heading to the farmers market yesterday when we saw what appeared to be a baby heron down on the ground under where they’re nesting over there. luckily a rehabber had just arrived and scooped it up. it was still alive but just barely. might be a long shot but just curious if anyone knows where it went and if there are any updates on it? was pretty heartbreaking to see but a little hopeful since it was still alive. thank you!
