Woke up at 4:30am to capture the sunrise on the West Pennine Moors, so beautiful up here!
An underrated Rangefinder I don't see enough: Kiev 4
An underrated camera: Ricoh 500G, a small review with shot samples
An underrated camera: Ricoh 500G.
It has a 40 2.8 lens that renders very nicely in black and white, the controls are small but easy to use, the focus wheel is first, then shutter speed, then an aperture wheel that goes down to F/16.
While it technically has an automatic mode, the battery replacements are expensive (5-10 pound for one battery) and it functions perfectly fine without one, being fully mechanical, so it's a none issue really.
The leaf shutter is fast and timed well, the rangefinder is bright and works well down to 0.9M. It has a bright and full viewfinder too.
Measuring about four inches wide by two and a half tall it's compact and lightweight.
The only issue you'll encounter (aside from possibly being broken as a lot of these old cameras are), is the light seals; it uses a full door lightseal that will need carefully replacing in it's entirety, almost in all cases, though this isn't impossible to do and takes about half an hour to cut and measure.
