Not in the modern sense of a soldier or high-ranking official, but, after all, he was a samurai and came from a politically active background, such as the Date clan; moreover, he was undoubtedly the most important sorcerer in the region—and likely in northern Japan as well—and it is highly probable that he was responsible for training and leading young sorcerers
