I am personally so tired of people labeling Jinshi as a red flag because he’s not.

He is a human character with both good and bad traits. He makes mistakes and he has flaws. He’s also very similar to Maomao, so whatever "flag" color he is, Maomao is similar.

He is the only one Maomao views to be as kind as her father, and the only one besides him who gives her relief. He also takes endless care of Maomao, protects her, accepts her unconditionally, and shows her more love than pretty much everyone else in the series. Anyone who calls him a red flag does not understand his character at all, in my opinion.

Flattening his character to shove it into the box of a surface-level buzzword ignores the layered writing and historical framework in which The Apothecary Diaries is set.

He is a character written within the values of his time and his setting, and one who consistently acts with remarkable restraint, empathy, and care in an era where power abuse was the norm.

Does he cross boundaries and make mistakes?

ABSOLUTELY!!

The scenes where he crosses a line are, without a doubt, uncomfortable. They should make us pause as an audience and think.

But:

Discomfort does not equate to toxicity, nor does it make Jinshi a red flag. The story itself does not romanticize these moments.

Jinshi is not a character without flaws, and the story doesn’t make him out to be. His flaws make his character deeper and more complex.

When he crosses the line, Maomao doesn’t reward him or say what he did was okayshe challenges him, consistently for that matter The story uses Jinshi’s mistakes to explore his flaws.

Jinshi’s lapses in judgment are part of his growth into learning how to love in a world where he has been taught differently. Unlike truly toxic characters, Jinshi reflects, pulls back, shows remorse and guilt, and works to improve and change.

In addition to this, liking Jinshi doesn’t mean endorsing his flaws or "romanticizing his behavior" (unless you let it, of course and you shouldn’t, he’s not a perfect character ). His flaws make him the character he is! It means having the understanding that a character can do bad things and still be deserving of empathy.

Part of the discomfort when Jinshi fucks up is exactly the point!

His growing love for Maomao destabilizes his carefully constructed identity. He has spent his entire life pretending to be something he is not in order to survive the world and society he was born into.

Falling in love with someone intellectually equal but socially beneath him challenges everything he has been taught about love, about relationships, about women-literally everything.

The process is messy, and he fucks up and makes mistakes along the way. But the story wants us to witness this growth, not to excuse it, but to better understand it.

The important thing is that Jinshi tries to grow and improve not only himself, but the people and spaces around him. Jinshi’s love for Maomao is real, vulnerable, and transformative—not just for him, but for the society he’s trying to change

I speak Arabic (my mother tongue) but these letters are arabic ones but I can't read it

only one word I can read which is الله

but it is written in a cursave way

which mean ( allah or god)

I think it can be persian because they have simlar letters like us

if anyone can read it then help us to understand what is written

Don't forget the last time they tried adding arabic into anime spesifically jojo's OVA scene

that is why I am concerned what is written

I tried to interpret what was written and got this:
مسضوعشا ‏الله ل مر عسمانم
Though this doesn’t seem to mean anything in any major language written in perso-arabic that i speak or google translate recognizes.
When i put it into google translate it did autocorrect to this: مثضوعش ‏الله لمن آسمانم which is pretty similar and apparently means both “Do not attribute to God what is not His” and “May Allah bless my sky” in Arabic and Persian respectively.
I don’t speak either, feel free to correct if I’ve made a mistake

This visual is shown in 3x2 when Jinshi tells Maomao that they took surplus from this year’s harvest from the southern Binan-shu region (未南州) to support the northern region that suffered locust plague. They asked for the help from the Bi clan (未の一族), which they apparently graciously obliged.

The child in the center is the main child featured on the movie poster! We already know their name from this post here. I also recognize the woman in red from the movie trailers. Judging by the clans that Jinshi is writing in 3x1, the Bi clan (未) is one of the 12 original clans, near the bottom to the left of the Ma clan (馬, which is Basen and Gaoshun’s clan).

Non-spoilers but some extra context from the novels: >!The Binan-shu region and the Bi clan aren’t mentioned in the novels here (they just say harvest was taken from the southern region), so I believe it’s fair to say it’s an anime-only addition to add intrigue and context for the movie later.!<

Well, as you can see from the title I loved the first opening song and usually I am quite disappointed of the next ones ( only OP made many good openings from what I have watched ) but AD really surprised me in a good way . Both new opening song and ending song of season two are sooooooo good

I just find maomao's face so done and funny. Thoughts?

No matter how much she denies it, Maomao is the biological daughter of Lakan, the Grand Commandant (太尉) of the empire. Grand Commandant is one of the Three Ducal Ministers (三公), making Lakan equivalent to a duke, and Maomao - his daughter - a duke's daughter, equivalent to a duchess

Dis is prolly why Maomao is so important, cuz her being hurt in anyway will turn anyone who hurts her against Lakan (Jinshi even has to tell his troops that she must not die during their expedition). And whoever earns her hand in marriage, will become a force to be reckoned with in the Empire... (I'm looking at you, Jinshi)

P.s. If Maomao marries Jinshi, a prince, she will become a princess consort (王妃)
