My first 7 string, and it's beautiful

It's the Cort KX507MS Pale Moon.

I have been browsing for a 7 string for quite some time now. Wanted to get into to the Drop F/F#/G territory for the modern core stuff. I saw that many of the established low tuning players use bare knuckles rn, but since they rarely come in stock with guitars and standalone they are not particularly cheap, I started looking for fishmans, since they are a standard for these tunings.

I wanted not to pay more then around 1000$/1000€, wanted stock fishmans, wanted multiscale, and especially stainless steel frets, since I am a sucker for those rn. This is the only guitar on the market that fits all of that criteria (at least as far as I know).

I heard that QC issues might happen. And since I was determined that this is the guitar for me + I hate having to trouble myself with returnes, I purchesed it from Thomann and used their services to inspect it and set it up straight in F# before shipping. Services costed around 50€, and I got shipped a perfect guitar. Not entirely perfect if I'm honest, Thomann, during the inspection, noticed a couple of scratches on the headstock and on the body, and offered me the guitar for around 60€ less. The scratches are minimal, you really need to look for them to notice them. So basically I got the services for free.

As for the guitar, what can I say. First of all, I dare to say that I love the way it looks. It's like top 3 out of all the 7 strings I've checked (on all price ranges) in terms of aesthetics for me. It looks exactly like the type of music I wish to play with it. SS frets feel amazing, and they will not get destroyed over time. Fretwork as a whole is very very good, nothing to complain. Tuners do their job very well. Pickups are exactly what they need to be, crushing but clear. The different voicings allow for a wide array of tones.

The neck might be weird, like others have said on the internet, it not thick, but has wide shoulders. Might take some time to get used, and I got used to it pretty quick, it became natural for me. It doesn't impede me from kicking ass at all. The neck width is also a bit wider than other 7 strings (as far as I've read on specs of guitars), people say that it feels more like an 8 string neck. Idk what to say since this is my first 7 string that I've played, and ofc, never played an 8 string. Since I have nothing else to compare it to, can't complain.

Even though I am not a performing musician, if I was, I wouldn't be ashamed to take this on stage. It looks killer and sounds amazing. I am incredibly happy with this purchase, feels like a steal.

My first HB, and it's awesome

I mostly play metal and rock music, and for that I am a fan of superstrats, but I always wanted a classic style strat in a HSS config. Didn't really want to bust the bank, so HB was an obvious choice, and the ST-Modern Plus was even more obvious. I did pay Thomann to inspect for QC and set it up before shipping, around 60€, and that is becuase I doubt I'll get any other classic style strat anytime soon, so I wanted it to be perfect on the first try.

And damn boy, it came in in perfect condition. I love the weight, the neck, the frets, the tuners, the feel, the everything. The neck itself toghether with the fretwork is the biggest winner for the model I think. It's not like I've played so many guitars that I know what I'm talking about, but the neck and fretwork feels more expensive and premium that any other guitar I've tried.

What I don't like about it is the weird palm mute position the bridge makes you play in, and the bridge pickup. I will most likely change the bridge pickup with a SD JB-4, but probabbly will keep the neck and middle single coils, since I am not the biggest clean tone player, they absolutely do the trick for me. But that depends, if I have money and time to spare, I might change them for some SSL-1's.

What can I say, this model is dead cheap for what it offers. And it's great to see that on this sub many people posted this model recently, and many people posted this model with the shell pink color. I really don't think this is my last HB.

I haven't really had the opportunity to test many guitars. Pretty much only two guitars I've owned I tested extensively. An ESP-LTD EC-256, which has a meatier neck but had a satin very sticky neck and moving around was hard, and a Charvel pro mod san dimas which has a thinner and sanded neck, very smooth and I can more around fast, but my hand aches after an intense song. So my experience is pretty limited. Also, I am mostly a riffer/rythm player. Think James Hetfield, Monuments John Browne, Slipknot Mick Thompson.

So, for my next guitar, what kind of neck profile should be on my radar?

Also, I have found a pretty interesting guitar that I really like at a great price second hand. An ESP LTD M403. A model I didn't know about until now, because it's discontinued. I like everything about that guitar, but it has a "flat extra thin U", and given my experience with the Charvel, I this LTD might give me more hand ache. Is my assumption correct?

Thanks!

Inspirat 100% dintr-un post recent de pe MetalForTheMasses.

Incep eu cu "the elephant in the room": Metallica.

Am o vorba (nu e de fapt a mea, am auzit-o pe undeva): "your band is only as good as your drummer".
