My cat was hit by a car on Sunday. He was only 6 years old and I always thought we’d have many more years together.
I was completely taken by surprise and I an physically aching. I went to work today but as soon as I came home I cried and have been ever since. I’ve lost family members in the past but this is on a whole other level.
When I got him I was in my early 20s, I’d left an abusive relationship and was battling my way through life. I got him because I met a guy at a party whose cat had just given birth. It was on a bit of a whim but I’d just got a promotion at work so I could afford to look after him. He brought the life back into my life and has been my rock and reason ever since.
Now I’m completely lost, there’s no bell, no meows, no clawing at the bathroom door to be let in, I’m on my own even in a room full of people.
I’m hoping this aching will turn into numbers and I’ll run out of tears, but I know my heart will miss him everyday for the rest of my life.
I love cats but I won’t ever have another one, no other could compare and to couldn’t go through a loss like this again, it would be like torture.
