Well this sucks

Update: I just called the clinic and they said the $200 reschedule fee is ONLY for a PET/CT scan, which I'm not even having done. So the receptionist this morning at the clinic was severely misinformed. I get paid this week and I will have enough money for the rescheduled appointment, so problem solved.

----

I had a cardiology appointment today to get an echo done and when I was checking in at the desk she told me I had to pay a $180!!! copay. I asked if I could just pay that at my follow-up next week because I get paid on Friday. She said no, and I only had $4, so I said "ok let's just reschedule." And then she was like "ok well just to let you know, there's a $200 reschedule fee." I nearly died of a heart attack right there on the spot. I genuinely do not have that kind of money. I thought the reschedule fee would be like $20-50 NOT $200!!!! I literally paid them my last $200 for my last appointment when they gave me a holter monitor to wesr for 24 hours. So now I'm crying in my car trying to figure out how I'm gonna get back home with $4 because my car is ALSO nearly out of gas.

At this point I'm just not gonna be able go to my heart appointments because I can't afford them. :) I made it this far without collapsing dead so I must be alright. Seriously what is the point of my insurance when this is what happens when I try to seek preventative/diagnostic care? I might as well just wait until an emergency and have everything done at the ER because at least then I can just ignore the bills they send me in the mail. I hate being poor wtf

The job market is horrible....

Hi everyone, my boyfriend has been trying to apply for a second job for 2 years now. He keeps getting ghosted. He has applied to hundreds of jobs in multiple different fields. He has an A.A in General Studies because he was undecided at first but now he is going for a B.S in Nuclear Medicine or A.S in Radiography, whichever one accepts him first. He wanted to attend an accelerated Medical Assistant program before starting his next degree but the tuition is $15k at every accredited program we looked at, which is insane for a job that barely makes $20 an hour if you're lucky, so he had to scrap that idea. He has full availability due to his classes just being online right now and his current job only schedules him for 12-16 hours a week.

He really wants to get experience in a healthcare/hospital environment but it seems like every company here wants you to come in with 2-3 years of experience even for jobs where they claim you only need a HS Diploma/GED and your BLS Certification... and he has both of which. He has applied for Reception, Transport, OR Aide/Assistant, CNA/PCT, Phlebotomist at plasma centers/the blood bank, and more. He has applied to Advent Health, Orlando Health, and HCA.

I currently work as a transporter and was hired 3 years ago after 10 years of working in the horse industry with no other experience. I don't even have a degree yet or any certifications other than my BLS, and I am genuinely boggled at how I managed to even get my foot in the door when my boyfriend technically is more qualified than I was when I was first hired. Everyone I talk to at every hospital says that they are short staffed and are "always hiring" and I have seen it firsthand in my own hospital yet they never seem to actually hire anyone that fits the role... He will get rejected from a job and then a day later the job listing is reposted. It's hard to not take that personally.

I have been BEGGING my managers to interview him but they have to go through an external recruiter first, but to even get your resume to the recruiter you have to go through the entire application process with AI screening. It's a huge roadblock and we've tweaked his resume countless times and we tailor it for each specific job he applies to. He used to have a cover letter but only started getting interviews after he got rid of the cover letter. Constantly rewriting it was honestly exhausting and unnecessary when he couldn't even manage to get a real person to look at his application or interview him anyways. When he does manage to get an interview, it goes alright but then they never get back to him.

Anyways, to the point of my post. I am asking here for any type of leads on an entry level healthcare job within 30 minutes of the Oviedo area. We are desperate at this point. We have bills to pay. My boyfriend is motivated and he genuinely cares about working hard and being the best that he can be. He just needs his foot in the door at a hospital. But we don't even know where to go from here and I feel like I've done all I can do for him at this point to get him another job. Idk what to do. And yes again he has applied to other fields as well. Walmart, Discount Tire, Publix, a bunch of fast food and retail. They either pay less than what he currently makes, or they ghost him. It's very frustrating. We are struggling to afford our bills. Getting a job in ANY field that's $16 or more is the goal but it would be a major plus to be in healthcare.

So please if anyone can help us, I would greatly appreciate it.

Do you need to attend a specific EKG program/course to take the NHA exam?

Hi everyone, I currently work in a hospital as a transporter and I'm wanting to move into working as a monitor tech while I'm in school for Nuclear Medicine. (Lots of neat cardiology stuff!)

My hospital's Education department has online EKG classes through the Healthstream portal but I'm not sure if that makes me eligible for the NHA EKG exam. Did anyone else train on the job to become an EKG/monitor tech without taking the exam? Or did you have to take an accredited course and take the exam?

Hi everyone, I will be starting my Nuclear Medicine program this fall. I have taken many many college classes before so I am not new to online classwork at all. But my current laptop is a big 17 inch dinosaur gaming laptop. It sounds like an airplane taking off and is very heavy when I have to carry it with my textbooks.

I would like something much smaller and quieter to take to my classes. I have an ipad with a tablet attachment but I dislike MacOS very much when it comes to schoolwork, so I do NOT want a Macbook. I'm looking for a Windows laptop. I have hear numerous times to steer clear of Chromebooks and I do want something slightly more advanced and faster than that.

My budget is about $300-400 at the moment. It doesn't need to be fancy but I do still want it to look nice. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I'm just curious, for those who are fulltime students, how are you paying for housing? My financial aid just barely covers my classes, my biggest refund was like $1500. I'm just wondering how you're affording student housing? Are you using financial aid, or are you working like crazy outside of classes to afford it? Even the "cheap" options when sharing with a roommate(s) are like 800+ a month. I'm trying to plan ahead for Fall semester and I am scared tbh. I have car insurance and other things I have to pay for so it's not like I'm just working for fun.
