Of slow Mondays and the uncomfortable truth about dating…

This movie was such a wake-up call no? Tbh, I never really understood it when I first watched it. I found it really… boring, mostly because I couldn’t relate to any of it.

Now, on my nth rewatch, it has become my go-to movie whenever I’m in one of those moments where I need a little reminder to stop overthinking and just accept things for what they are.

And what gets me is how, despite being from 2009, so much of it still feels ridiculously relatable today. Funny how a movie can mean absolutely nothing to you at one point in your life, and then suddenly hit completely differently years later.

And I know most of us here can probably relate to at least some of what this movie is trying to say. Sometimes we get so caught up holding on to possibilities that we overlook the simplest and obvious answer right in front of us.

He/she may not be THAT into you. And that’s okay :))

No one tells you about missing your parent/s as you get older

My siblings and I were talking about our mom.

About how she suddenly stopped messaging us. How she stopped calling us - for years. She worked abroad and never came home, not even for a visit.

We couldn’t understand it. We couldn’t believe she would just ghost us. We were her children.

She had stopped talking to our dad, too. We were all so confused.

I told my siblings, “Maybe she has another family abroad. Maybe she met someone better and decided to build a new life - a new family - and simply forgot about us.”

And then I woke up.

Still confused.

Because why would Mom do that? That wasn’t like her.

It took me a while before reality finally dawned on me.

My mom has been dead for more than ten years. Cancer.

That’s why she’s unreachable. That’s why she doesn’t call.

That’s why she doesn’t message us anymore.

She never forgot us.

She loved us.

She just could no longer be here for us.

She didn’t choose to disappear.

She just…did.

Like poof.

Gone.

Where do you plan to spend your twilight years?

Every now and then, I find myself thinking about the years ahead and where I’d eventually want to spend my retirement years.

Personally, I’ve always dreamed of retiring somewhere peaceful—either by the beach or in a cozy cottage in the mountains. The only thing that makes me hesitate is the healthcare situation (haay, Pilipinas). Peace and quiet sound wonderful until you suddenly need a well-equipped hospital nearby 😤

Skl, my then-boyfriend and I actually used to talk about retiring and settling somewhere in the mountains. We’ve since broken up, but funny enough, that dream never left me. I still want the cottage (just like the one in the photo). I still want the mountains and the perfect view.

Kayo? Where do you see yourself spending your twilight years? Would you stay where you are, move somewhere quieter, live by the beach, head for the mountains, or start over somewhere completely different?

Probably the only ring i’ll ever get in this lifetime, but c’mon…

One Ring to rule them all,

One Ring to find them,

One Ring to bring them all

and in the darkness bind them.

A reminder for anyone feeling lost at 40

Entering my 40s, I think I’m becoming more aware that life isn’t something I need to hurry through anymore. In my 20s and 30s, there was often this invisible pressure to achieve, keep up, find the right people, build the right career, and make everything happen as quickly as possible. But getting older makes me realize that some of the most meaningful things aren’t found by moving faster. They’re found when you finally have the presence to notice them.

Slowing down means noticing the ordinary things I used to overlook—the easy mornings, a good cup of coffee (black, no cream, no sugar!), a hobby I genuinely enjoy, a short walk with no specific destination, the comfort of my own company, and the simple fact that I’m here…alive.

And perhaps that’s one of the biggest lessons I’m carrying into my 40s: I don’t want to spend the next decade merely trying to get somewhere. I want to actually experience where I am.

There is still so much I want to do, but I no longer feel the same need to rush. I’m learning that a slower life doesn’t mean an unambitious one. It simply means choosing what deserves my energy…and being present enough to appreciate everything!

So, to anyone in their 40s who feels lost, behind, or pressured by the lives of the people around them: you are not late, and you are not alone. You are not failing just because your life doesn’t look the way you imagined it would. You don’t have to catch up to anyone. Some people find love early, while others find theirs when they least expect it. Some build careers in their 20s, others start over in their 40s. Some know exactly what they want, while others are still figuring it out.

And that’s okay! Just keep going! Keep living!🩷
