Sanyo VCR 7300 - Head Drum Spin?

Sanyo VCR 7300 - Head Drum Spin?

So, I am new to Betamax (in adulthood), and recently acquired this super clean Sanyo VCR 7300. Like with all vintage equipment I acquire, I open them up to clean them, replace belts, etc. This thing works flawlessly, but since I am not as familiar with this format’s mechanisms, do the head drums not spin for all Betamax VCR’s? This one doesn’t appear to, so initially I thought it might be gummed up or seized. That was until I opened it.

Another Thoughts on Mix Post

I know this is breaking rule 5, but I couldn’t find the weekly post it referenced. May have just missed finding it. I’ll delete if I need to.

This beautiful little 4-5 month old girl was a Foster Fail…we caved and adopted her a couple weeks ago. Awaiting DNA test and curious what she is a mix of and if there is any RR in her even after seeing the 99% of posts like this saying no to their mixes. There is no ridge except when excited, running zoomies, etc, and then a ridge does show. Don’t have much background info on her. There’s a decent amount of white on her too as you can see. Maybe some boxer or could be some other hound mix or something. She may have been slightly underweight when we first started fostering her about a month ago at 17lbs. She is now about 25lbs.

Just picked up this guy from Facebook marketplace yesterday. Anyone have experience with these style of units? Information out there seems to be scarce. It didn’t come with the remote, so I have one on its way right now that I found online since it’s needed for a number of functions. I can confirm what I have found is that this thing is built like a tank. I honestly wasn’t expecting much based off of my limited research on quality, but I’m actually kind of impressed. The unit is in very good shape, but I did open it up to lube a number of areas, clean the lens, and attempt to change the belt on the tray mechanism since it was giving me some small issues getting it to eject. I was able to resolve that issue, but not replace the belt since I was not in the mood to disassemble the amount that I needed to do in order to get to the belt. That will be a project for the future.

The next step I might take will be to dabble with the Daphne emulator that can interface with this kind of unit. Not sure if I will spend the money on the likes of Dragon’s Lair, but may look for something a little bit more affordable to play around with.
