Emerson
Excited that second overall pick, Grady Emerson, is making his professional debut tonight with Charleston.

Was looking at his numbers for the season. He’s played 33 games for Charleston, 32 for Bowling Green and 32 for Montgomery. It’s impressive that he’s been in three different levels in the same season. Even more impressive that his numbers have been remarkably steady at each level. Yeah, his average and OBP have come down, but that’s to be expected as the pitching gets tougher. But, his strikeout rate is an insane 5% and he’s actually walking more in AA than he did in the lower minors. Rays might really have a special one here.
After today, it’s just three short days before the rays get to play the Orioles again!
It feels like an eternity since the Rays were home. Hoping for enthusiastic crowds this weekend.
I totally said “wait, Bartolo Colon is still pitching????”
I don’t know. The only word I saw was “legendary.”
It just occurred to me, almost 48 hours after the deadline, that Carson and Xavier are still in the rays system. I was really expecting one or both to be included in a deal.
Haven’t heard if it is injury related.
A few days ago, there was buzz when melton was scratched from the lineup prior to a game with Durham. Was it a trade? Call up? Unfortunately, he hasn’t appeared in a game in nearly a week. I can’t find anything on the internets but it seems likely it is an injury.
As rays fans, we need to prepare ourselves for the very real possibility that the Red Sox will not lose another game this season. /s
He’s playing well. He’s 25 years old. He was a major trade acquisition this offseason. I’m curious if his shot isn’t coming sooner rather than later.
From the Times: “Getting one more player, whether it’s a pitcher, or another bat, I think that’s the most important thing to maybe just kind of add a boost into the second half” said veteran DH yandy diaz, via team interpreter, Kevin Vera. “If an opportunity like that comes across, that’s what I’d like to see.”
He’s being quite clear on the need to bolster the team at the deadline. Obviously, he didn’t mean this as a slight against any current teammates, but the unmistakable takeaway is that he knows that some of the current 26 need to be upgraded.
As we approach the crazy time of the trade deadline, it’s always good to keep in mind that if a guy says “my sources are telling me…” and that guy has 20 followers on Twitter/X, he has no sources and is just making shit up.
Rays need to get their road grays back. Not just saying that because junior sticks out like a sore thumb. I’ve always hated that they ditched their gray jerseys.
Kept reading self-anointed experts on social media glibly saying that Emerson would pass on the Rays and go to college. Does this sound like a guy who isn’t going to sign? https://www.mlb.com/news/grady-emerson-drafted-no-2-rays-2026-mlb-draft?adobe\_mc=TS%3D1783862368%7CMCMID%3D03626999489997514836814239180936280554%7CMCORGID%3DA65F776A5245B01B0A490D44@AdobeOrg&affiliateId=mlbapp-ios\_webview\_news-index&rsid=mlbios.at.bat.new.implementation
It’s going to be Emerson for the Rays.
Will it be Cholowsky, the top rated college player from UCLA? Lackey, the touted catcher from GA Tech? Or Emerson, the top prep SS from Texas who has been compared to Bobby Witt Jr.? Someone else? We’re gonna know in about three hours.
Been looking at a lot of draft rankings and mock draft results. The vibe seems to be that Chicago is cooling on Cholowsky and looking more at Emerson. The thinking amongst those who analyze these things seems to be that if Chicago does not take Emerson at 1, Rays will take him at 2. If Chicago takes Emerson, Lackey is the pick for the Rays.
