Engine considerations for 1542

Yo! I picked up a mod-v 1542 with a motor guide tour 82 for $400. The boat is a 1992 Alumacraft and the motor’s 20 years old. The motor works after getting cleaned up and the body’s going to the welder to fix a wrecked transom.

My question: is a 25hp 2-stroke too big for the boat? I want to go fast but I don’t want to roll the thing. It’ll be fishing and leisure. A 15hp and 25hp console-ready are about the same price around here. I’d like to set it up for stick-steer. Hit me with that motor knowledge, doods!

Whopper Plopper size

Haven’t pulled the trigger yet, but I’m going out in the evening this weekend and want to hop on the Whopper Plopper train. What size is everyone throwing? 75? 90? The 110 and 130 look kind of insane.

A dink a day keeps the doctor away

1.1lb monster. Buzz bait on a black water creek at 6a. I don’t care what size, that top water hit is addictive.

Landed one fish today

Got back into fishing this year after about 25 years off. Kayak’s the way to go for me. PB largemouth today was 3.31lb. I had one about double this size on and about 2ft from the boat I dropped the rod tip like a bitch and it threw the hook.

Fished a finesse jig with a zoom speed craw. They were bitin’ in 8ft of water just outside the watermilfoil. It’s fuckin’ hot here.

Fishing at Lake Lynn

Hello! I’ve read through some older posts about bank fishing at Lake Lynn, but there’s some info online now that suggests you have to fish from the pier and only live bait. That still true?

White bass were on it today in NC

I took the kayak out by myself and crushed the white bass today. I’ve only been fishing again for about a month and today was the most successful day I’ve had (13 white bass, 2 large mouth - one of them the dinkiest dink, and 3 small crappie. Trying to figure out how to fit a cooler on the yak so I can start cookin’ dinner every once in a while. Thanks to everyone that shares setups and what to look for.

My son caught his first bass today!! Big time proud of him. I thought it was a small mouth but now I’m thinking spotted. Am I dead wrong? I haven’t fished in 25 years and we’re both feeling pretty new to this but getting better every outing.
