Family Trips with Juno Temple

This was a great episode, man she can talk!! I listen at 1.3 speed and for the first time I thought about slowing down.

I had forgotten her father is Julien Temple who I know as a big video director in the 80s who also directed the film Absolute Beginners which time seems to have forgotten but it meant a lot to me back then.

Great job by Josh on the song as always. I wonder if I’ll ever be able to distinguish the brothers’ voices. It’s strictly context clues that tells me which one is speaking.

May 2024 episode with Cole Escola

I’m getting closer to catching up with every episode in order. I started listening live in Jan 2025 & also started at the very start of the pod then as well & just listened to the episode from May 2024 with Cole Escola. I highly recommend this episode for a relisten. Oh Mary! On bway had been announced but hadn’t started & he mentioned Bowen as a potential Mary.

On a personal level, Bowen mentioned he started birding in Prospect Park as a relaxing activity. I had no idea he did this & I’m a Central Park birder. I wonder if he continued it

Tree maintenance Columbus 87-88

It seemed like they were sawing off a lot of healthy limbs so I asked & was told the contract is to remove any branches 15 feet or closer to the ground & dead ones at any height. Also they would remove if they were getting close to buildings but that wasn’t the case here. He said they do each block every 7 years, so I guess I’ll see them in 2033.

LGA-MDW

Flew out Tuesday & back Friday without incident. Well-behaved full flights, no delays, yummy onion pretzels.

This was my first SW flight since The Change. Forgot about checking in online until the early evening before late morning flights & got row 10 both times, middle & aisle, middle & windowless.

My mom needs a wheelchair in airports due to distance & no issues with me accompanying her to pre-board instead of our designated group 8.

The outbound flight featured a comedian on the intercom. His catch phrase was ‘for real’, as in, “If you can’t read your seat number and letter, you will be sent back to second grade for your teacher to scold you. For real.”

But my favorite quip was after we landed, and the ding of the seatbelt sign went off. He said ‘get out!’

Graham had quite a week or so

Interviewing Madonna, attending Taylor Swift's wedding - I'm so sorry he no longer has a radio show so we can get some details. Hoping for something on his podcast, but don't know what the lead time is for that.

Punching expired tickets

Wondering if I just got lucky or if all the ticket punchers simply don’t care.

I only ride LIRR in summer & offpeak. I had two rides remaining on an expired 10 trip used without issue (the second guy actually winked at me & didn’t punch it at all, so I used it three times.)

One other time I had a one way ticket that wasn’t collected & I used it two weeks later. Each time I had a legit one way on my person that I wound up using for the return.

Now I’m caught up and will continue to purchase one way tickets from the machine before each trip.

Thanks to the ticket takers for being too busy, too blasé or just plain kind.

Changing to Lyft Pink

I’m contemplating changing my membership to Lyft Pink since I will be in Chicago next month & think that will allow me to use Divvy.

I am concerned about doing it wrong and losing my 5000+ accumulated angel points. Also, I use points to extend my membership; I’ve only actually paid for annual membership in 2020 when I first joined.

As a Lyft Pink member, can I continue using points to extend my membership monthly? And what is the correct way to switch and retain my existing points? Thanks to anyone who’s done this and responds.

9th Ave 42-41st bike lane

Sorry I didn’t take a picture this time, but what’s happening here? New bike lane painting is complete to 42nd & starts again below 41st, but this one block is not only not painted green in the designated bike lane, the entire lane has mail trucks & other vehicles parked in it. I used the pedestrian area for that block, but wondering if anyone knows a timeline for completion.

There are more blocks below 37th I think without green paint on the bike lane, but no work crews seem to be there anymore.

Las Cultch on Celebrity Substitute

Perhaps you've seen clips of this YouTube show on TikTok etc but Julian does great shows with kids and now has Celebrity Substitute where he brings celebs in to meet with kids. Enjoy Matt & Bowen being wholesome.Celebrity Substitute

PS I don't see a thread for the Gina Gershon episode. Is anyone else's messed up? It's showing as being over 2hr 45 min long and wildly FF past an hour when I tried FFing the ads after the segment when they mentioned Jamie Lloyd.

My first trip since January

Eastbound had an older ticket taker who didn’t blink when I used my expired 10 trip, guessing he didn’t care. Used the one way ticket I purchased in Penn this morning in case the 10 trip wasn’t accepted for the westbound trip back to Penn. Track wasn’t announced this morning until less than 3 minutes before departure. Business as usual.

Beautiful day for a ride

Aside from losing my streak due to zero neutrals on the UWS, I had a nearly perfect commute this morning. No playing whack-a-mole to find a bike. Instead of only posting to complain, I wanted to to highlight the perfect biking conditions: not too hot but still no need for a jacket, no wind, and an unprecedented green light run from 89th to 62nd on Columbus including no construction vehicles blocking the bike path in the mid 60s.

Though the bike lane portion of 9th Ave is paved to at least 34th, they’ve dug up the recently paved section of the road just to the right of the path in the 30s again.

FYI long stretch of 9th avenue (including bike lane) is without blacktop, very rough riding this morning. I didn’t see any sign at the start saying how far the unpaved segment went or when repaving would occur, but there were no work vehicles present. Not great for commuters. We have 8th & 10th as options for uptown. Anyone prefer 7th or 11th for that stretch?
