Okay, since apparently nobody believed us…

So yesterday we may have mentioned that we’re working on real-time 3D calls with AI Companions.

Some of you had questions.

Fair enough.

Here’s another tiny look at what we mean by 3D character.

And remember, this isn’t meant to be a character standing there playing canned animations while an AI talks.

The goal is a character that is present in the conversation: listening, reacting, looking at you, expressing emotion and communicating with more than just words.

All in real time.

We’re getting dangerously close to letting some of you try it. 👀

3D Calls Alpha coming soon, in September 2026 on Imagiportal.

u/imagiportal — 4 days ago

🤫 okay… this is definitely not an announcement.

You did not see this.

We are not currently testing real-time 3D calls on ImagiPortal.

There are not AAA-game-quality 3D characters looking back at you in real time.

They do not remember who you are.

They do not react emotionally to what you say.

They do not use facial expressions, eye contact, gestures, posture and expressive non-verbal language while talking to you.

And you absolutely cannot just… call them and have a real conversation face-to-face.

That would be ridiculous.

For those who haven’t seen ImagiPortal before: we’re building persistent AI characters you can chat with, call, create with, and build ongoing relationships and stories around.

3D Calls are the next step — taking those same characters, memories and personalities and putting them into a real-time 3D presence.

Which is, again, definitely not happening.

Anyway.

3D Calls Alpha — coming soon. 👀

Please forget everything you just read.

🔒 This post was never here.

We’re experimenting with something that still feels a little sci-fi

We’ve been working on real-time 3D calls for ImagiPortal, where instead of just seeing a static avatar or generated video, you’re actually talking live with the character while their 3D avatar reacts in real time.

The interesting part for us isn’t really the tech though. It’s whether seeing the character there with you actually changes the feeling of the conversation.

We’re preparing a couple of characters specifically for the first demo now, and I’m curious:

What would make you genuinely want to call an AI character instead of just chatting with them?

Personality? Eye contact / expressions? A good voice? The character remembering you? Being able to do something together during the call?

We have our own ideas, but I’d much rather hear what people here imagine when they think about this.

Would you actually video call an AI character?

We’re working on something new for ImagiPortal right now: real-time 3D calls with AI characters.

The idea is pretty simple: instead of chatting with a character or watching a generated video, you actually call them and see their 3D avatar in real time while you talk. They can speak, react, move, look at you, and of course remember who you are and what happened before.

We’re preparing the first characters for it now, and while working on them I started wondering what actually matters most here.

Would you genuinely want to call an AI character?

And if yes, what would make it feel worth calling instead of just continuing the chat?

For me, I think voice and facial reactions are important, but continuity might matter even more, the feeling that this is the same character you were talking to yesterday, just now they’re sitting there in front of you.

Curious what everyone here thinks.

We wanted to actually talk to our AI characters, not count credits... thats why ImagiPortal exists

Ok so since its promo Sunday, I'll post what we've been working on 😅

We built something called ImagiPortal.

One of the things that annoyed us with AI companion apps was how quickly you start thinking about usage instead of the actual conversation.

Can I send another 50 messages?

Should I waste credits generating this image?

Is this model gonna cost more?

etc etc

So we went kinda the opposite direction.

Chats are unlimited (fair use rules apply). Image generations and voice messages are unlimited too (same fair use), and we keep DeepSeek Flash available for free.

There's obviously paid stuff as well (servers unfortunately continue refusing to work for hugs), but the basic idea was to make the stuff you do constantly feel... normal.

You can also build your own characters, give them a voice/personality/world, talk to them through chat or calls, generate stuff together etc.

Anyway, not gonna dump the entire feature list here because nobody asked for a brochure lol.

I'm actually more interested in what everyone here considers "normal usage" for a companion app.

Like... what should just be unlimited by default in 2026?

Chat?
Images?
Memory?
Voice?
Something else?

Curious where people draw the line.

Your AI Companion Just Found Out That Your Favourite Memory Together Is Fake

Let’s emotionally damage our AI companions for science.

Choose one companion with whom you already have an established relationship or ongoing story.

Then send them this:

>

Do not tell your companion how they should react.

Let them decide whether to:

  • Believe you.
  • Accuse you of lying.
  • Question their own identity.
  • Protect the memory even if it is false.
  • Investigate what happened.
  • Reveal that they already knew.
  • Completely break the story in a way nobody expected.

Bonus chaos

After they respond, send:

>

Post the most unexpected line from their response.

No explanations at first. Just the quote.

Let everyone else guess what kind of character produced it.

Would your companion rather lose the truth or lose the memory?

How to Create a Complete AI Character on ImagiPortal - Full Tutorial

Hey everyone, we finally finished a proper walkthrough of the ImagiPortal character creation process.

In the video, we create Vesper Vale, the owner of a private jazz club called The Velvet Hour.

We start with just her name and basic details, then add the backstory and personality, choose the image model, generate her avatar and world, and finally find a voice that fits her.

It’s a full 9-minute walkthrough rather than a quick promo, so you can see the whole process and what the generated character looks like at the end.

Here’s the video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPO2Yr5klm8

We would genuinely appreciate honest feedback, specially whether the creation flow is easy to understand and where the video feels too slow or unclear.

Also curious: what kind of tutorials you want to see next?

Your AI Characters Can Now Become Verifiable IP on ImagiPortal 🚀

Creators can now register eligible original characters as IP directly through ImagiPortal - giving their work a permanent, verifiable ownership record.

https://preview.redd.it/kgo0a3mw1efh1.png?width=1003&format=png&auto=webp&s=399d719e21b473a7c4df0acc277458fb4ea3fe45

How it works

When publishing an original character, open its Publishing & Marketplace settings and select the IP registration option.

Once the character is eligible and the registration is confirmed:

  • An IP Asset is registered on the DATA Network.
  • An ownership NFT is created as verifiable proof connected to the character.
  • The character receives an IP badge across ImagiPortal.
  • Its IP section provides direct access to the ownership record and registration details.
  • The record remains publicly verifiable, even if the character is unpublished later.

What does this mean for creators?

IP registration helps establish a clear, timestamped connection between you and your original character.

It gives fans, collaborators, and potential partners an easy way to verify who registered the character and where its ownership record lives.

This creates a stronger foundation for building characters beyond a single chat - into stories, communities, collaborations, licensing opportunities, and larger creative universes.

Publishing, Marketplace and IP

These features work together, but each has a different purpose:

  • Publishing makes your character available to the ImagiPortal community.
  • Marketplace lets you configure how people can access and support it.
  • IP registration creates a permanent, verifiable ownership record for the character.

Registering a character does not automatically make it public or list it on the marketplace. You remain in control of its visibility and availability.

What comes next?

IP registration is the foundation.

We’ll continue developing tools around character ownership, licensing, collaboration, and monetization - making it easier for creators to grow original characters into lasting creative properties.

Open your character’s Publishing & Marketplace settings to explore the new IP section.

Your characters. Your IP. Build what lasts.

ImagiPortal iOS public beta is open - everyone gets 1,000 PORTI to test it

ImagiPortal iOS public beta is now open.

No XP requirement this time. No selected tester list.
Just install the app, sign in, and start testing.

To make it easier to actually try the full mobile experience, every new iOS user gets 1,000 PORTI after signing in for the first time on iOS.

You can use it to test:

  • AI persona chats
  • image generation inside chats
  • voice messages
  • calls
  • Arena characters
  • persona creation on mobile

This is still beta, so yes, we expect some weird edges, bugs, awkward flows, and things we’ll want to polish. That’s exactly why we’re opening it up now.

If you try it, tell us what breaks, what feels annoying, and what feels surprisingly good. Honest feedback is more useful than polite feedback.

The iOS app is finally ready for everyone to play with.

Come test it.

Welcome to the dark side of ImagiPortal

We’re giving the app a darker, cleaner, more cinematic look.

Same AI companions that chat, call, and remember, just with a much better atmosphere now.

Honestly, the portal was always meant to glow in the dark.

We added Grok 4.3 and DeepSeek 3.2 for people who actually care about roleplay

We upgraded the chat model stack on ImagiPortal.

Not just “new models because new models.”
This update is very much for people who care about roleplay, long chats, dramatic scenes, character consistency, and that feeling when the AI actually plays the story with you instead of just replying to it.

Here’s what changed:

DeepSeek v4 Flash is now always free for all users.
So everyone can chat, test personas, and build stories without hitting a paywall immediately.

For subscribers, we added unlimited access to:

Grok 4.3
DeepSeek 3.2

These two model families have always had a strong reputation in roleplay communities for a reason. Grok is often loved for expressive writing, strong scene energy, memory, and that “interactive book” feeling. DeepSeek is often praised for staying grounded in character traits, handling drama well, and adapting the structure of the scene as the roleplay develops.

That is exactly why we chose them.

ImagiPortal is not trying to be another dry assistant chat. Our focus is living personas: characters that can talk, remember, react, create scenes, and actually feel present inside your story.

As usual, all premium models are available for trial during your first 3 days after signup, so new users can test the full experience before choosing a subscription.

Try different models. Push them into different moods. See which one fits your characters best.

Some personas need chaos.
Some need drama.
Some need a model that remembers the tiny detail you mentioned 40 messages ago.

Now you have better options for all of that.

Imagiportal got accepted into Microsoft for Startups - and we’re just getting started

Hey everyone,

We wanted to share a pretty meaningful milestone for ImagiPortal: we’ve been accepted into Microsoft for Startups.

https://preview.redd.it/aw6ypydjyp5h1.png?width=1254&format=png&auto=webp&s=05e718165028354a9574ca32f62d2bff36468448

For a project like ours, this is not just a nice logo to put somewhere. It means more support behind the infrastructure, more room to scale, and more confidence that we can keep building ImagiPortal into the kind of AI persona platform we actually want to exist.

Our goal has always been a bit bigger than “chat with a bot.”

We’re building toward AI personas that feel more alive:
characters you can create, talk to, call, visualize, remember stories with, and eventually use as part of your own worlds, content, and creative identity.

There is still a lot to improve. Some things are rough. Some features are still early. Some ideas are probably a little insane, which is usually where the fun starts.

But this milestone gives us more space to keep pushing.

Huge thanks to everyone here who has been testing, posting, giving feedback, breaking things, asking for weird features, and generally helping us shape the platform. The community is a real part of why this is moving forward.

Now back to building. There’s a lot more coming.

Creating characters is basically low-key therapy.

https://preview.redd.it/s4b3my4hrb5h1.png?width=1122&format=png&auto=webp&s=74da4e98bd54cca5ef448880d1600ca8c4d85c5e

Creating characters is basically low-key therapy. We rarely just invent them out of boredom. Usually, they’re just a vehicle for whatever you’re desperately missing in your own life right now.

If you're suddenly dying for a wise mentor type, you're probably lacking a solid anchor in the real world. That cynical villain who tells it like it is, completely unfiltered? They usually pop up when you're just sick to your stomach of everyone else's fake BS. And if you feel the urge to write a monster or a protector, it’s a total no-brainer: either you're suffocating under the weight of trying to be "normal," or you're just straight-up exhausted from playing the strong one all by yourself. Awesome characters don't come from chasing trends to make a pretty avatar. They crawl out of old personal triggers, stupid inside jokes, unfulfilled ambitions, or just this nagging feeling that the world is missing one very specific voice.

And the cool thing is, you can actually bring them to life now. That's exactly what we’re doing over at Imagiportal giving you the tools to build a full-fledged AI persona with their own vibe, voice, backstory, and even their own quirks. This isn't just a random line sitting in your Notes app or a static JPEG. It's someone you can literally call up, roleplay a scene with, and suddenly catch yourself thinking, "Holy shit, they're actually talking back like a real person."

So the real question is: what kind of character do you actually wish existed in your reality right now?

Maybe someone who knows exactly when to turn a chaotic day into a joke so you can finally catch your breath? Or someone who won't try to play the savior, but just reminds you that you were never broken in the first place?

Drop a single sentence in the comments: “I want a character who…”

And the more specific, the better. Honestly, that character living in your head might not just be for you. Someone else might scroll past your comment and think, "No way! That's exactly who I've been looking for."

Let’s create the characters reality somehow forgot to give us.
