The Central Music Hall was built in 1879 and was demolished in 1900. It was designed by noted architect Dankmar Adler and occupied the southeast corner of State and Randolph streets in downtown Chicago. The hall was renowned nationally for its excellent acoustics. It was replaced by the Marshall Field store building (now Macy's).
Hey everyone! I’m u/indieemopunk, a founding moderator of r/ItalianGenealogy.
This is a community for anyone interested in Italian genealogy, family history, ancestors, records, towns, and stories. Whether you are just beginning your family tree or have spent years searching through civil registrations, parish books, immigration records, and archives, you are welcome here.
Feel free to share:
Anything connected to Italian genealogy is welcome.
When posting a research question, include as much information as possible:
If you are looking for help with your own research, please create a new post. Do not hijack someone else’s post by adding an unrelated request about your own ancestors or family line.
Creating a separate post gives your question proper visibility, makes it easier for members to help you, and keeps the original discussion focused.
Italian records can vary greatly depending on the location and time period, so even a small detail may help someone point you in the right direction.
When requesting a translation, please share a clear image of the entire page whenever possible. The surrounding text, headings, margins, and record structure often provide important context.
We want r/ItalianGenealogy to be friendly, constructive, respectful, and inclusive.
Researchers of every experience level are encouraged to participate. Please remember that everyone was a beginner once.
Helpful corrections and respectful disagreements are welcome. Insults, hostility, ridicule, gatekeeping, and intentionally misleading information are not.
Please protect the privacy of living people and credit records, archives, websites, researchers, and other sources whenever possible.
Introduce yourself in the comments below and tell us:
You can also make your first post today. A name, photograph, record, town, family story, or simple question may be enough to begin a valuable conversation.
If you know someone interested in Italian family history, invite them to join us.
Thanks for being part of the first wave of r/ItalianGenealogy. Together, we can build a useful and welcoming home for Italian genealogical research—one ancestor, record, town, and story at a time.

Ordered the new Hot Stove Jimmy record with the current bundle off of 10 records for 100$ from Jump! Up Records last night. Got a message from Chuck Wren today. He delivered the bundle to me in person as I work right up the street from him. Got a chance to talk for 15-20 minutes. It was awesome!
Pic 1: most of my collection.
Column/shelf 1 A-B. Picked up extra shelves and I’ll have to move 11 rows B-F over after I clear out the box and vinyl at the bottom.
Column/Shelf 2 - currently B- through K? I have to shift 5 rows from the bottom to the top and then start shifting column/shelf 3 to shelf 2.
Column/shelf 3 is currently L- z and comps and soundtracks.
Pic 2. I inherited a lot of mid to late 90’s and early 2000’s dance, electronic, R&B and pop music from a friend of a friends father who passed away. He was going to start a record store and was buying lots of the same cds. I have so many copies of the same cds that am willing to sell. I’ll be posting these to Discogs.
Pic 3 is P through T that I need to sort in.
Pic 4 is u-z I need to sort in.
Pic 5 - banana box are h’s needing to be sorted in. The two closed boxes next to it are m’s.
Pic 6 - the two big boxes with v-z on top are dvds. Two of the boxes to the left are also DVDs. The other 7 file boxes are all cds. Phish through Z.
